In December, I stayed at Baan Mae Rim Nan on the side of the River Mekhong in Nong Khai. The rooms with balconies, overlooking the promendae and river [and Laos !] are great and have nice attached bathrooms. The only downside is that at Baht 700 they are a little overpriced.
