When booking this place, we knew it would be basic. We knew beforehand, that there were only buffet meals three times a day, electricity between 18-23 and jungle wildlife just outside of the bungalow. With exciment and curiosity we entered longtailboat to reach out Ko Ra. First surprise was a abandoded concrete pier and road(!) through the jungle. We arrived... More

The atmosphere is casual and chill, and attracts people who are relaxed and enjoy being in seclusion with nature. Do not expect uppity-resort-kind of people there, because it is not set up to indulge guests with expensive spa regimes and fancy cutlery. My husband and I stayed there for a week, and we had a fabulous, adventurous, and at the... More

Ko Ra Island might not have the beautiful clear waters of the nearby Surin Island but it has to offer seclusion if you want to get away from it all. The accommodation is very basic just a bed in the middle of the room and no other furniture. They provided us with a fan and a mosquito net once we... More

Koh Ra was a chance for my kids to see a more authentic side of Thailand without getting caught up in the luxury beach hotels that Phuket is famous for. Here life is simple. We spent all our time outdoors because there is nothing to do indoors. No tv, no electricity for most of the day and an intermittent internet... More

we spent two nights at Koh Ra ecolodge and the were paradise, an absolute gem hidden away fron the tourist that can spoil the true beauty of thailand. The resort has simple but beautiful huts hidden in the jungle/mangroves where you can fall asleep with the sounds of the jungle! the meals which are eatten together buffet style are both... More

We stayed for 2 nights and really enjoyed it. The resort seems to only be there so the volunteers and staff have a way of staying, but that is understandable a it is beautiful. They have a few volunteers who stay there and offer services such as yoga or are part of reef check or a turtle conservation program and... More

We booked for 9 days here, including Christmas, as we wanted to chill out, be a little active and enjoy the sea and the jungle after a week in Bangkok. Our expectations were more than met. Whether it was strolling along a deserted beach, snorkelling off others, gentle trekking through the jungle (more difficult treks were available but we just... More

My wife and i originally booked a standard room for 1 week, but ended up staying for 2 weeks. We just couldn't pass up the opportunity for the solitude and serenity. Although the rooms are fairly spartan, they provide all that you really need.I spent most of my time in a hammock strung up outside my room, overlooking the ocean.... More

We booked 5 months in advance for a seven night stay We had payed in full before arriving and when we got there "Kim", the American manager leasing the property, told us he and Thai partner were leaving in five days to go on holiday as it was the end of the season. He said we could stay the 7... More

I appreciate the constructive comments and unfortunately have to agree with SOME but would like to point out a few points. First, this reviewer states that they were not told about the closing date but it is clearly posted on our home page, they were our last guests of the season. The end of April is a transition month in... More

The big plus regarding Ko Ra Ecolodge is the stunning location, and the peace and relaxed feel of the place. The facilities are quite spartan and the lack of water was a little irritating at times (the shower only worked once in the 5 days we were there); although water shortage is, apparently, a problem across Thailand at present. Should... More

Thanks for the comments. In response to your points, the water shortages (after nearly 6 months with no rain ) that affect Thailand at the end of the dry season should be solved now, with increased storage capacity and reconfiguration of piping- apologies for that. Similarly, to the last review I responded too, we were also faced with staff shortages... More
