A personalised experienced. Transfer from Sandakan to Jungle, great educational lesson about the region, culture and environment. Included in the package is 2 boat trips, a jungle trek and awesome food. Gert (one of the owners) made us feel so welcome, would loved to have have stayed longer in the jungle. 600 steps, not difficult, walking through the beautiful rainforest,... More

I think all the good things have been already written about the Last Frontier. The place is brilliant, although you should get some exercises before you go there as you need to climb more than 500 stairs to reach the isolated resort on the hill over Kinabatangan river. We stayed for 2 nights in the first room from the entrance.... More

This is my first review ever. An amazing find in the middle of an amazing place. Jason and Gert are the two owners who have dedicated themselves to creating a place unlike any other. Two boat rides, a jungle trek and daringly fine cuisine are only a few of the perks. Cold beer or a nice bottle of wine along... More

We stayed here almost 3 years ago. Loved the place. A wonderful region to visit. The river trips and local bush walks were fantastic. The guys at the lodge were very friendly and the food was great (and they catered for one of our party who is vegetarian - not easy in a remote location). We felt very comfortable here as... More

I simply cannot imagine the effort that it takes to provide this good a service in such a remote location, but I genuinely could not recommend Last Frontier strongly enough. The resort is approximately a two hour drive from Sandakan town and on the trip there, you begin to get a feel for quite how isolated they are. They aren't... More

The guesthouse – run by a Belgian and Chinese Malaysian - is really in the middle of the jungle. It is about 2 hours drive from Sandakan town/airport. We had a transfer from Sepilok and one back to Sandakan airport. The first one was arranged by The Last Frontier but the other one – cause we had to leave before... More

A magical place perched at the top of the tree canopy. It was a wonderful few days. We were picked up and transported to the lodge without a hitch. Yes there are 500 steps to get to the top but you are rewarded with a stunning view over the jungle and towards to river and there’s not another tourist group... More

We spend 2 nights of our Borneo adventure at the Last Frontier, and it was one of the highlights of our holiday. The room is fine, its very big and clean. And yes, to get there you have to climb a lot of stairs and I wont deny that the last time I climbed them I was very happy that... More

Wow!! We are a well travelled family of four- 2 adults and 2 teenagers. I can honestly say this is the most amazing experience we have ever had!! If you like crisp uniforms, marble baths, fine china, a concierge desk, and robotic staff this place is definitely not for you. On the other hand if you want friendly caring people... More

An amazing place, high atop a ridge looking down on the Kinabatangan River and surrounding rain forest. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Borneo: amazing array of meals, especially considering they cook everything from scratch and have to carry all the ingredients up the 600 stairs. Welcoming and knowledgeable host Jason was a delight and we had very interesting... More
