We have not stayed here but beware, if you book a trip with Borneo Eco tours, you will have lunch here and maybe breakfast. The food is pretty ordinary. The food was buffet style, tasteless and cold. With Breakfast, the eggs were served very close to raw. It was cheap though and the service was ok.

The location is very good and you can be easy to visit other attractions nearby. The room is big and can be joinable when you stay with your families. The breakfast is OK even not too much can be chose.

I stayed in Hotel Sandakan on 25th September with my 3 colleagues as we were doing roadshows in Sabah. We reached there quite late around 8 pm. The check process was smooth. As others have said, Sandakan is not he biggest, brightest of Asian city jewels, but as a base for lots of ongoing trips it's great. The hotel is clean, efficient (if a touch aid back), food is fine and plentiful. Toilets were a touch smelly in public areas, but certainly still some of Sandakan's best.

Let's get this straight from the outset. Sandakan is not what you'd call a pretty city, by any means. If that's what you're after, go to somewhere touristy like Penang. Or Fiji. Or Phuket. Stayed twice 1night then KJC (which was fantastic) then 2nights on return. Worse hotel by far in our 4 week trip - all about same price. we stayed here for one night. it's located on the hill above the town so a cab or 2km walk is needed to get to the centre. very good sized rooms and a great rate. free internet and great pool. not too touristic. alcohol needs to be consumed outside the a/c restaurant which is not a huge inconvenience.
