But old, do not expect anything special but peace and quiet. Furniture is old, but the views are magnificent. Food was very good. Yes, the road is the BUMPY but it was an adventure. The view of the volcano is astonishing.

This is a typical Costa Rican owned small hostel lodge. The service is outgoing and friendly. The view is outstanding, across the lake looking up on to the volcano. Every room in the Lodge faces the volcano, all you have to do is sit up in bed and see the volcano (to bad it isn't erupting now). The rooms are... More

If you don't mind lack of cleanliness and are looking for a place with excellent service, then this is the place for you. The staff is so friendly and helpful. However, the rooms have every kind of bug imaginable, and they'll bite you too. There are also gecko droppings on the beds and chairs. My recommendation for a Arenal/La Fortuna... More

In it's heyday this place must have been incredible. The gardens are absolutely lovely. The view of the lake is astonishing. The volcano looms in the distance. Too bad it is no longer active. The road to get there is BUMPY..painfully bumpy and painfully slow and long. While it may only be 6 miles of dirt road it took way... More

We stayed here in December 2012 for two nights and may have been the only guests for at least one of the nights. Hotel: not new, but in good shape, with a nice view. Rooms: fairly large, clean, with small balconies, somewhat old plumbing. Access: over 20 minutes of dirt road (pretty bumpy), altogether about 30 minutes outside of La... More

This hotel was run down, musty and needed a major renovation. You can't walk around on the property and need them to shuttle you to your room. Both my daughter and I were extremely disappointed after driving 5 hours from Manuel Antonio. I also would not recommend using The Tropical Travelers - I was very unhappy with their service and... We knew we would have a view of the volcano and an opportunity to do a number of wilderness hikes. What we did not know was how magical the place would be. With all the gardens, hanging bridges, exotic birds and animals and the forest paths which are faintly lit up at night, the place is a wonderland of very... More

Quite a long ways out of La Fortuna which is a little annoying because you can't really do all of the activities that are offered around the city. However there are wonderful views and it is RIGHT next to the lake. You can see the volcano clearly from pretty much every part of the hotel. The rooms are comfortable and... More

This place has a wonderful view of the lake and the volcano and really friendly staff. Breakfast was a bit small but tasted really good. Unfortunately it has more downs than ups... the place really needs maintenance & cleaning. Pool was really dirty and the filters were turned off. Rooms are very basic... no A/C,fridge nor glasses, apparently they take... More

It's a great location with a georgous view of the volcano, secluded and peaceful, on the downside the 30 minutes drive on a rough dirt road is heavy, the rooms are a couple of notches bellow basic, the ammenities extend to a small soap bar, 3 plastic cups and a empty plastic pitcher, they are equipped with a 18"ish fan...
