Went there over Xmas break and returned again a couple of months later in March. Had a great time. There's ample surf equipment available to rent for all different types of waves and riders. The surf instructors were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. If u're looking for a laid back vibe, without the frills of a major 'resort' then that's the... More

Just got back from spending 10 nights at the Playa Grande Surf Camp. What a gem of a place. Lindsey and crew made it an absolute blast. Quiet, comfortable, safe. Loved it. Planning on going back year after year

Pros: - short distance from a very nice untouristy and undeveloped beach - 1 hour from Liberia on mostly paved roads - pool Cons: - uncomfortable mattresses and pillows, mattress smelled - shared toilets / bathroom that really needs updating - inadequate shared kitchen facilities - uncomfortable plastic chairs, ugly tables - extremely noisy air conditioner that is either way... I am Gerry Gilhool and have owned and operated PGSC for the past seven years. Staying at Playa Grande Surf Camp is not for everyone. It definitely has a communal vibe and before anyone checks in they can clearly see that the kitchen and bathroom areas are shared. I do have friends and employees that I socialize with within hearing... More

Our second time in Costa Rica and we loved the area but decided we wanted to stay out of Tamarindo. We headed to Playa Grande Surf Camp which was a perfect mix of peace and quiet but close to the hub of town and also close to shops and restaurants. The accomodation is sweet and really well priced. The rooms... More

My first trip to Costa Rica was so amazing thanks to the Playa Grande Surf Camp. I was travelling with a friend and we had planned to go to a few towns south of Playa Grande, but decided to cancel all of our other hotels once we got to the surf camp. This place was everything I was looking for... More

I headed to Costa Rica with the goal of learning to surf. Playa Grande Surf Camp was the perfect place to take a few lessons then go out on my own. The staff was super helpful and were awesome teachers. The camp has board rentals too if you dont need any lessons. The accomidations were clean and very reasonably priced,... More

This was my first time in Central America and this, to me, was exactly what I imagined Costa Rica to be! I loved the camp and would stay again there in a heart beat. I loved the little huts and it made me feel like I was in the "real Costa Rica" not to mention amazing value for the price.... More

I stayed at the Playa Grande Surf Camp, and had a great time! It's literally one minute on foot to the beach, and there's a selection of surfboards for rental. You can also take a lesson, and Lindsay and Gerry are great teachers! My surfing improved vastly after a session with them :). Everything is clean and everyone was really... More
