Cahuita is where I go in Costa Rica to disconnect. I absolutely love the town, the beaches and especially PNG. Greg and Michel have gone above and beyond with each visit. I appreciate every detail that they think of in each room or cottage. On this visit, I stayed in the green cottage because I wanted a full kitchen. It... More

Away from it all hideaway, but a close stroll to a couple of little restaurant/bars for an evening meal, and just round the corner from the wonderful Brigitte's Breakfasts of fresh pineapple juice, banana pancakes, coffee and eggs if you have room. (See photo). The little guesthouse and very private, well equipped cabin rooms (we had the Green Room) are... More

The most amazing part of this place is the landscaped grounds (although as mentioned many times below - the rooms, pool and location are all fabulous). It is amazing how on a not so very large lot, every room and cottage feels completely alone. We were a family of 6 traveling with 2 young kids and everyone loved this place.

My girlfriend and I arrived much later than we had planned, a bit harried after several hours on the road from San Jose in a monsoon. Michel was there to greet us and show us to our room, telling us to relax and that we'd deal with paperwork in the morning. Michel is the real deal--consummate host and full of... More

We just got back from Cahuita, and are still dreaming about this guesthouse and wondering how soon we can go back. We were a family of four, with boys ages 4 and 6. We stayed in the blue cottage and it was heavenly! The grounds are immaculate, and the pool is divine. The property isn't that big, but you feel... More

Playa Negra Guesthouse is that rare place where everything is just right. We stayed in the Blue Cottage following a recommendation from another family traveling with kids and we were thrilled with our choice. Michel is a caring, attentive host and the type of person who makes you smile. It's no wonder he designed the place with a loving hand... More

Thank you so much to Michelle, proprietor, for a great experience on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. This is a place you will not want to miss. The rooms are very tastefully appointed, secure and comfortable. The cabins are beautifully designed in the colonial style. What we loved best, however, was the well-maintained garden, which also has a lovely... More

What a wonderful stay I just had at Playa Negra. It offers exactly what it advertises and more. The grounds are beautiful, immaculate. The location is great - private but within a 10 minute walk of downtown and the national park. There are two restaurants next door that are great options if you are tired and don{t want to go... Playa Negra Guesthouse was our base for a recent 9 days vacation at the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Our hosts - Michel and Greg - established a lovely quiet immaculately kept haven, just a few steps from the Playa Negra (the black beach) and in walking distance from the town of Cahuita. Their personal touch toward each and every... More

So, I was thrilled about coming here after we were at Tortuga Lodge in Tortuguero National Park (a real 5-star experience), especially since it turned out to be a 5 hour trip down to Cahuita. After all, have you ever seen SUCH GOOD REVIEWS on trip advisor? This place must be heaven so we thought. Then reality hit: - Our... More

Thank you for your review. I’m sorry that PNG did not meet your expectations. Now, let me briefly try to address each of your concerns. You arrived at sunset, half an hour before dark. This may explain why you felt that your room was dark. Since you did not come to see us the next day or mention anything about... More
