You really have to want to get to this area--- a long, long dirt roads followed by a 1 1/2 hour boat ride. Laguna Lodge is perfect for staying and exploring Tortuguero national Park. Nice and nature friendly rooms without TV (which is really good for enjoiying caribic sea wave and heavy rain noises, while sitting at the balcony. very good pool and bars. We had a 3 day/ 2 night package for Laguna Lodge in early September. The lodge is in a great spot, right between the beach and canals, but Tortuguero is pretty isolated. This hotel is beautiful. The only drawback is the lack of air conditioning, it was hot. We came to Costa Rica to see the sea turtles and on our tour at night we saw three laying eggs! Beach on one side of the resort and river on the other. Easy walk to the small village of Tortuguero. No roads or cars anywhere. Only means of transportaiton other than foot is river boats.
