If you spend any time driving the interior of Alaska, you will learn to take advantage of convenience when you find it. You can go hours without seeing anyone. If you are travelling the Richardson Highway, this is a very convenient stopping point. Heading south the next choice is Glennallen, another 75 miles, where you will pay the same rates.... More

Alaska is expensive and the distances vast, even on the relatively few roads. Paxson is a half-way point between Fairbanks and Valdez (350 miles) so a logical spot to want to eat or sleep. However, the "town" of Paxon is only 17 people (yes - between 16 and 18). The lodge looks like a hanger or a mill and has... More

This was a unique Alaskan experience. My mom who is 90 loved this placed because the owner/sometime cook was such a character. The food was basic but good, the rooms clean and comfortable. There were many hunters because it was the beginning of hunting season. Nevertheless the trip across the Denali Highway was spectacular with fall colors and we saw... More

In Alaska apparently anything goes. I will give them this much - the room and bathroom were clean and the bed was comfortable. They run a large generator to power the place, its loud and never shuts off. Get a room on the street side of the building it will be quieter. They rent to lots of road workers who... More

We travelled from Valdez and arrived late afternoon at Paxson Lodge which is located at junction of Richardson Hwy and Denali Hwy. This is a rustic building and sure many a tale has been told over the years, if only the walls could talk. Our room was located upstairs and bed and bathroom was clean and nicely presented. The furnishings... More

The place is a bit on the rustic side, but the location at the very eastern end of the Denali highway makes it a pretty good place to stop and rest and recharge those camera batteries for the amazing scenery in the area. I used it as a stop between Fairbanks and Anchorage, and it worked out perfectly - a... More

Maybe we just don't know what places in Alaska are like... We did find that everything in tourist season is way more expensive than we are used to. With that being said, we found this place to be about one step above camping out and maybe therefore highway robbery. $90+ for a tiny cramped room up the stairs. They promised... More

We reserved a room for $80 and were charged $92 when checking out. Owner said a mistake was made even though we confirmed the room and rate before leaving home. Rooms are really small, it's a oil boom building (1970's ) that shows its wear-and-tear with basics. If you want better treatment and no bait-and-switch, go elsewhere

We stayed in this hotel in June 2010. Our room was in the front on top of the main entrance. When we got there, we seem to have been the only guess at the time. About one hour later another group came in and were given the room next to us. They were extremely loud and the walls are paper... More

The comfortable bed and nice linens were by far the very best qualities of this hotel. The room I stayed in was over the main entry door to the restaurant so it was quite noisy. The walls are tissue thin and I am thankful I had ear plugs - though the people in the next room came in late and... More
