The reception staff is very helpful and friendly. The hotel is near Long Street and there is a small shopping centre and nice restaurants close by. We asked for a quiet room as I am a light sleeper and the room we had was perfect.

Hotel's Favourite
I have been in Cape Town at least 20 times, and for now, this is my favorite place to stay. The location is great: in Gardens, which is for me the best place to stay at, in a quiet side street, and in easy walking distance of several restaurants, bars and shops. The rooms are big and very comfortable. Staff is friendly and its really good value for money. If you dont like very loud music, make sure to pay a little bit more and choose a room at the back of the building, so that you dont "enjoy" the music of the mexican restaurant beneath the front rooms.

Great location on Kloof Street with variety of dining options. Walking distance to downtown, Long Street, museums and Company's Garden. Waterfront and Table Mountain Cable car is short Uber drive away. Fat Cactus bar (below hotel) is great place for a evening drink upon coming back from the tours. Would highly recommend.

It is a place we will return to on future trips, we felt at home and the room was very neat, clean and comfortable. Loved the big bath, towel warming rack and the huge king size bed. Hippo Boutique Hotel is a firm favorite!

This was the first stop of our 14 night stay in South Africa. We stayed for 4 nights; the hotel was in a good location with a selection of restaurants in safe walking distance. There was a Myciti bus stop just round the corner which would take you down to the Waterfront and the main touristy area and Bo Kaap is in walking distance. The staff were really friendly, in particular Alan, who gave us lots of advice and was really interesting to talk to. The only downside of the hotel was it had no generator so during load shedding, which happens 2-3 times a day for 2-3 hours a day, there is now power in the rooms. Interesting when trying to get ready to go out and the bathroom is dark as there's no window. The room was also a little tired and could do with a refresh. However, it did provide all the necessary facilities including a little microwave, although again only useful when you had power. There is a restaurant under the hotel which was very popular and although we didn't go there, we didn't hear any noise from it during our stay. I'm not sure where the other 2 restaurants are that they refer to in their description; there was a Thai restaurant a couple of doors down which seemed very popular though. It was a great start to our holiday.

We made a last-minute booking just before our flight to Cape Town departed. We were able to arrange transfers from and to the airport, which was important to us since we didn’t know how to get around town. In addition, the hotel staff were super helpful assisting us with tour bookings for our stay, and went out of their way to ensure everything went well for us. There are so many things to see and do in the Cape Town area that we would have had a good time, but they helped ensure we had a great time and saw everything on our list of sights and things to do. The hotel is in a safe area (meaning low risk of violent crime), but you still need to be careful of scam artists and “beggers” who will try to steal your wallet if they have the chance. If you have any questions about things to see or do, or what areas are safe to go to, the hotel staff will give you honest advice and tips. If they don’t know they’ll say so, instead of making up an answer. We really appreciated their advice and assistance, which ensured we had the best time possible during our short 1 week stay. While it’s not a fancy hotel, it’s a comfortable place to stay. There is no restaurant in the hotel, but if you request a room with breakfast, you’ll be able to get vouchers for breakfast at a number of nearby restaurants.

A rather disappointing stay, with a poorly kitted kitchen, a window blind the fell off and was never replaced and a sense that my requests were just shrugged off. I gained the feeling that this hotel has seen better days and could do with a bit of an overhaul.
