From the moment we drove up towards this Lodge we just knew it was going to be an amazing stay and a fantastic end to our first holiday in South Africa. The situation is unforgettable, the service and friendliness of the staff could not have been any better. I would recommend this lodge to anyone who is going to this... more

As others have said, a gorgeous property set 10 km north of the town. Well worth it to drive out of town which did not charm us. A short drive and you pull into a private, quiet and stunning property. You can absolutely see how much effort (and expense) they have contributed to making this place what it is. We... more

Schoemanshoek, a tiny hamlet where the Altes Landhaus is located, is a great deal more attractive than Oudtshoorn, which is a sprawling industrialised town to the south. For the peace of this location, very close indeed to the famous Cango Caves, it is worth travelling the small distance out of town to reach it. The Altes Landhaus itself, in Old... more

I can't think of anything negative to say about this wonderful establishment. It is beautiful - from the drive, through the immaculate gardens to the house, pool and rooms. It is run with efficiency and charm by Yvette and her husband. The staff were fantastic too ! The whole place just makes you relax and not want to leave. Well... more

My boyfriend and I stayed here in March 2009 - it was lovely to arrive here after a long drive from Stellenbosch and find a pool and friendly staff. We were upgraded to a suite - which was absolutely huge - in a cottage in the grounds. It felt very safe, the gardens were beautiful, and the pool was lovely.... more

The lodge is set in beautiful gardens with a great swimming pool area and the accommodation is first class. Staff are charming and directed by a dedicated manageress but they lack training. The owners we were told visit "very occasionally" and perhaps that reflects on the general level of service. Food was a very major disappointment. more

We could not fault this wonderful small hotel. Our drive to the entrance through the bouganvillia lined driveway did not disappoint. The staff were so welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spacious, well furnished and overlooked the immaculate garden. The pool was set in a sunny section of the garden and we spent hours watching the birds... more

It is very difficult to find any fault with this hotel. Staff were unfailingly cheerful and efficient. Room was very comfortable, very clean and immaculately decorated and appointed, down to the umbrellas required in a garden room. Our aircon failed late one evening and we were immediately offered a change of room with them moving our gear while we were... more
