I was travelling with my grown up kids, who love the charm of Monastery Hostel. It reminded me of some of the best moments when travelling myself at their age.I certainly would have adored it at that time. This time, I met a lot of young, interesting people, easy-going and thoughtfull , a mixed age-range from families with young kids,... More

Don't be fooled by the exterior which could do with a major declutter! If you want to escape totally this is the place to go. It's basic but clean and very comfortable and the location is very convenient for walking, relaxing and popping down to the local shop so it ticks all the boxes. The microwave doesn't work so there's... More

I stayed at the Old Monastery hostel for two nights to enjoy the surrounding area of the Connemara national park. The owner is a quiet guy who doesn't talk as much as others might expect him to, however he is polite and quite friendly. The bedrooms, bathrooms and the kitchen are all clean and with a certain charm. The tasty... More

The old monastery hostel is a really nice place to stay and located great to explor the connemara national park. The owner, steve, is a friendly and layed back guy who won't be around all the time, but can be reached on his phone if there are any questions. The interior looks really cool with it's antique and unique decoration.... More

I had wanted to come to this place for some time, as I stayed there many years ago and had fond memories. Myself and my girlfriend stayed there last weekend. Decided on Friday morning that we needed to get away, went to the Old Monastery Hostel and stayed there Friday and Saturday. The Hostel is just amazing, I can't express... More

The hostel is certainly very unique – and in my mind a gem. There are things to discover everywhere – like a confession box in our room filled with ties and bras. If you are okay with a place that isn't as sterile as a five-star hotel, you can feel very much at home in the Old Monastery.

One of my favourite spots in Ireland is Connemara in Galway. I love the landscapes out there and the tranquility. So smack bang in the middle of this little village in Letterfrack, Connemara, Galway is a hostel so fun of crazy brick-a-brack i could only ay we were very amused. The hostel is a renovated old monastery. The decor is... More

The Old Monastery Hostel has its own charm: high rooms and windows from the floor to the top, books everywhere (next to the beds, on the walls, on the floors, in the bathroom,...) and lovely decorated with old pictures, instruments and candels. Located next to the entrance to the Nationalpark, one minute away from the pub and the supermarket/bank it... More

I have been here twice. For the love of the area and the building itself. End of story. Well not quite! I usually cycle from Westport to The Monastery for some time out. The first time, I arrived at 8pm on a Saturday night and was barely greeted by Steve Ellis's Gestapo like girlfriend. I was desperate for a shower... More

I stayed here with a group of hikers, we booked out the whole hostel, stayed for two nights! There is a great atmosphere here, I loved the bathrooms, so funky! The food is GORGEOUS, only a two minute walk to the pub, shop and other pubs! Loads and loads of books to keep you entertained, I'd really recommend this hostel... More
