Stayed in room 6. Just for one night on the excellent mid week dinner bed and breakfast rate. The room was clean and the bathroom was excellent. We wandered around town for a bit before spending the afternoon in the bar reading the paper and having some local beers. The restaurant was reasonably busy so if you intend eating book... More

Picked busy time to visit so waiter took mobile number and phoned when table available. Excellent tapas and rare roast beef straight from oven. Dithered over food choice and waitress was helpful and friendly. Lizzie (waitress) even gave us a tour of bedrooms and they looked great. Will be booking in for a couple of nights next time. No parking... More

Visited for a weekend. Stayed in room 3. Staff could not be more friendly and helpful. Really nice atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. Three course meal on the first night was excellent so had Tapas the next evening which was equally as good. Would definitely go back to this hotel.

Stayed mid week for three nights .Room 1 on first floor nicely kitted out and comfortable .Pillows might have been firmer but probably I am being picky . We were DBB . Slightly disappointed menu did not alter over the three days ....good to have seen some specials ! But the food is very good and wine list excellent.

We stayed for one night dinner bed and breakfast. What great value. What a lovely spot! Such hands-on polite staff - and what a great breakfast. Lovely comfy bed in room 7, absolutely spoilt. Kirby Lonsdale shops are varied and full of really desirable things to buy! We stayed for supper and the food was great - 1st rate service... More

Having carefully researched Plato's and seen nothing but positive reports, our experience was all the more disappointing. We booked a 'superior' room for two nights. Big mistake. Room 3 overlooked the road and the noise from pedestrian and motor traffic made it impossible to sleep until about 1.30am. At about 5.30 am the hotel delivery vehicles started to arrive making... Just had a lovely night away in Kirby Lonsdale. Platos was exceptional for a B & B. The staff gave us a very warm welcome on arrival. Complimentary tea and cakes were certainly appreciated. Room one is very cosy, immaculate and tasteful. Superb ensuite. We decided to go for a wander round the village - thank goodness the shops were... More

We stayed at plato's on Easter Saturday and Sunday, a very special treat off our daughter and her partner!. On our arrival we were given the keys ( attached to a cricket ball! Which is very quirky but a bit cumbersome to fit in a small handbag or my husbands trouser pocket) once inside our room we were over the... More

To all at Plato's,I highly recommend visiting this establishment if you are looking for a quality stay in or around the Lake District. My partner and I stayed for two nights in Room 8, spotlessly clean, well equiped and extremely cosy and romantic. We booked in to the restaurant for our first night and expected to eat elsewhere for our... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Plato’s is set in the heart of Kirkby Lonsdale - once discovered never forgotten. On the edge of the Lake District, the Dales and The Forest of Bowland. A pretty little market town set in the Lune Valley with wonderful walking, stunning views and really good shopping. As a boutique hotel, we understand that one of the joys of going away is to have a touch more luxury than you do at home. So that is why in our higgledy piggledy old building, we have made sure that every room is unique. The only thing that is standard is comfort - the ultra luxury Vi-Spring beds, the crisp cotton linen, the stacks of fluffy white towels, the state of the art flatscreen TVs, the luxurious en suite bathrooms some with baths and others with rainfall showers, the complimentary bottle of Plato's wine and gorgeous local Sedbergh Soap Company toiletries.Downstairs we have a Bar and Restaurant - Proper home cooking with a twist made from fresh ingredients sourced on our doorstep, a wine list selected by grape so that you can try new variations of your favourite wine, and honest beers and ales for the drinker who knows the difference. All prices are per room per night and include our sumptuous breakfast which is served until 2.30pm so you really can have a lazy lie in (please note that the room cleaning service finishes at 10am and check out on day of departure is 11am). ... more   less
