excellent location -- we could watch an elephant herd in the distance below our room, and amazing views during sunrise and sunset. Rooms were good, public areas are gorgeous. meals were middle of the road. Staff was friendly and helpful during our visit.

This is the best value lodge right on the crater rim. It is a large hotel with 80 rooms. Standard rooms are small with small bathrooms. Doors bang, louvres will not open and upon examination the dining room chairs need a thorough cleaning. My wife and I stayed for 2 nighst in February 2013 while visiting the Crater. Location and views are excellent. Rooms are tired at best. Must have been a great hotel at one time as the building has character. The food was mediocre to poor and the staff generally less friendly than most places that we visited in Tanzania..
