5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2013 NEW

It was great to stay in traditional accommodation and not the more modern alternatives. I really enjoyed the setting to relax and to do nearby treks such as to the Tiger's Nest. I also highly recommend the hot stone bath. The food served for breakfast, lunch and dinner was also nicely prepared. The service and attention to the guests was... More

This hotel used to be a royal palace and was truly charming. Several buildings, all with lots of history. Food was good and the bar was very welcoming in the afternoons. The family altar was truly spectacular.

As the name suggests this place as once a real palace used by the royal family members. Now converted to a hotel the place is a real gem. Located on a hill so you can have a great view over Paro. The staff are really friendly, they warmed our bed every evening with hot bottles so when you go to... More

First of all, as the name suggests, it is truly a palace. Its architecture is pure bhutanese style, yet they have combined traditional and contemporary aesthetics with imagination and élan. Its exquisite open to sky courtyard, sprawling garden with brilliant colour flowers, tastefully decorated dining room and lots of sitting areas around the property harmonising perfectly with the spectacular classic... We stayed at Gangtey Palace for three nights before going on a Jhomolhari trek and thought it was wonderful. We had a rather basic room (but still comfortable), but there were clearly much bigger and more interesting rooms available. We were there during the Paro festival and were rather late in booking the room so we were grateful to be... More

Sometimes "heritage" hotels are an excuse to skimp on the cost of refurbishing but the Gangtey Palace has been prepared with a careful blend of the old and the new. If you are looking to experience a real Bhutanese palace then this is the place to go. Our room was amazing, very "traditional", full of character and clean. The restaurant... More

If you’re in Bhutan, you absolutely must stay here. This hotel has tons of character and charm. Beautiful traditional Bhutanese architectural details are found inside and out. The front porch/veranda overlooking over the stunning valley is a great place to chill out, read a book or enjoy a drink. This place has a pretty cool bar too -- feels like... More

We stayed for just one night before we left Paro on the Jomolhari trek. We were initially put in a twin room around the back of the main hotel which was dark and a bit dismal, it was clear that we weren't too happy, and we were quickly ushered to 'the best room in the hotel' , the Governor's bedroom,... The location of this hotel is very good, near to Paro City, surrounded by Paro Valley. Food is generally good, but you will have to place the order in advance. The staff is co-operative and always ready to help. The heating facility is a bit in adequate for month like December. The room in which we stayed was a bit... More
