Hotel's Favourite
We chose this hotel because of its convenient location only one block away from the train station. It's impressive how this modern hotel was packed into a relatively small space with lots of ingenuity. The room was clean and quiet, the bathroom with shower was good and the bed was comfortable so we slept well. Breakfast in the lobby was modest and included a weird brew from an ultra-modern, space-age coffeemaker. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our short stay as it served our purpose well.

Recently updated, trendy looking minimalist hotel in the middle of the action in Palo Alto. Tons of nearby restaurants, so no need for food delivery, just walk one block and pick up any type of food. The room is small but efficient and clean. Queen bed with four firm pillows. There is a tiny desk and a chair to get some work done. WiFi works flawless. There is a Keurig coffee maker with pods, but no snacks, neither a fridge, neither a safe. I didn't try out the TV but it looked new. Bathroom is good, shower on the smaller side (can only fit one person). There is complementary breakfast in a tiny space with fresh pastries (saw the guy delivering). There is no space to sit and get some work done (besides the breakfast area). Some people mentioned a curtain, my room had a barn door instead that closed off the bathroom from the bedroom (but not from the front door). The room is not well isolated. I could hear people walking above me (some small cracking in the ceiling) and people slamming their doors in the morning. This place is not for light sleepers. There is a nightclub nearby called The Patio @ Rudy's blasting loud beats and screaming people until 1.30AM on each of the three nights I've stayed in this hotel. For this reason, I won't recommend this place.

The best thing about Hotel Keen is the location. It is right in the heart of downtown Palo Alto, within minutes of walking to a large number of great restaurants.
After considering location, the hotel has pros and cons. One thing to know is that this is a converted SRO facility. The rooms are small and basic.
We reserved the larger size room ("comfy room") and received a ground floor room. It was dark, and the window opened on a shaft between buildings, with little natural light. We could have dealt with that, but the room has no bathroom door, just a curtain. That may be fine if you are traveling alone, but it doesn't offer any privacy if you are sharing the room. We talked with the front desk and got relocated to a 3rd floor, smaller room ("cozy room"), but it was much better. If had good light, ventilation, and a door to the bathroom. If this is an important issue to you, make sure you check what you are getting.
We ended up finding the cozy room, just that, quite cozy. A nice place to sleep after a night out in Palo Alto. It is too small for a desk, so you couldn't do any work there.
Breakfast was minimal, and the front desk was intermittently staffed.
On balance, it was ok once we changed rooms, but I'm probably not going back.

Amenities were understandably closed with limited service because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The room feels smaller once inside the room by comparison to the images. The frosted windows face another building so there was minimal natural light.

Hotel has a modern style and very clean. Coffee machine is a big plus. The rooms remind me of ones in Northern Europe. Wine and snacks on Thursdays is worth the effort. The location is very close to the main commercial strip in Palo Alto, yet it is easy to park nearby.

Except the position and the pillows, all features of the hotel and stay were not adequate to the cost. The room was never cleaned and the bed was never made out of a four night stay. Service was almost absent. Breakfast was not adequate and there was not coffee (2 mornings out of 4) without any word by the staff. Air conditioning was not properly working in the room. Other minor issues not reported.

A renewed hotel with excellent location one block from University Ave and near CalTrain station.
Rooms are on the micro size but cozy and comfy. Biggest issue is there is not enough hot water in the shower every morning during rush hour. Nice petit dejeneur. A/C unit is right above your head when you are in bed so you hear it turning on and off every time with a sound similar to your iPhone vibration when you get a new message!

This place has promise to be a reasonably priced option in an overpriced market. The rooms are small and lightless, but clean and funky (in a good way).
Unfortunately, the service and maintenance are rotten. During my 4-day stay, the water in the shower was tepid for two days. I complained, and it was fixed but then relapsed, and no one responded to my second complaint. Housekeeping simply failed to show up one day. There is no security at night, and the front door and elevator are accessible to anyone walking in. My reading light didn’t work, and they couldn’t fix it for some reason.
If the management gets its act together, maybe it will be okay someday, but not now.

This hotel is quite basic with small rooms, but our room was clean and quiet, with a good bed, quiet air conditioning and a capsule coffee machine. The breakfast offering in the reception alcove is minimal but OK to start the day. Overnight parking is free in the parking lot along the street although parking can be tight in the evening with so many restaurants nearby. Not cheap but competitive with the overpriced options nearby.

Unless you’re paying less than $200 a night, do not stay here. Rooms are more spartan than a college dorm. The heating systems don’t work. The steam from the shower sets off smoke alarms. The breakfast is skimpier than a Residence Inn continental breakfast. Service staff know of issues but don’t care. Avoid at all costs.
