Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

Hotel Milo Santa Barbara garners praise for its prime location near the beach and local attractions, and guests appreciate its pet-friendly policy, free bikes, and pools. While the staff is often lauded for their friendliness and efficiency, some guests have encountered less attentive service. Though the hotel atmosphere and cleanliness receive positive remarks, many travelers express disappointment with the rooms, describing them as dated and not well-represented by online photos. Additionally, the lack of elevators and on-site dining, coupled with high costs and extra fees, lead some to question the hotel's value.

Good hotel in a great location. But do not get a room in building 6 near the pool!!! Horrible experience, won't return, building 6 rooms are all near the pool, where we unfortunately had a large obnoxious family day drinking all day by the pool with their unsupervised kids yelling and screaming from 3pm til late night. Witnessed them harass an older woman who asked them politely to quiet down (they yelled for her to shut the F up). I asked for a room in a different building but nothing available and no sign of concern from front desk. If I could post a video of the pool scene you would know never to book here.

No heat for our first night despite 3 attempts by maintenance man who even left one roll in plug heater that also failed to work. They did discount my bill for it. Their people working the desk were great. The views are lovely as is the location but the room for the price was small and without comfortable seating. And the vanity mirror was broken which mattered because the bathroom lighting was terrible.

The room (#107) didn't look like the pictures on Hotels.com. The room was dark and unwelcoming. The bathroom was less than hospitable to the point where my travel partner declined to shower at the hotel, instead waiting until we were at the W in San Francisco. The location is sublime but the hotel does not appear as pictured, which is unfortunate. All said, it is highly unlikely that I would return.

Wonderful stay! Great location and super clean room. Front desk was very helpful. I sleep with earplugs, so can’t speak to noise at night, but it didn’t seem like a problem. Fire pits were so cozy. Loved being across from the beach and able to walk along the Coastal Trail. They had a winter special where you stayed two nights and got the third night free. Worked out to about $265/night. Would absolutely stay here again.

This hotel is right accross the road from the beach and is just a few blocks from the pier and all the fantastic downtown food scene. It's also in easy walking distance from the train station. The rooms are clean and modern looking. No signs of wear I could see. The landscaping on the grounds is nice and relaxing. Front desk staff was friendly.

I still have nightmares about our stay here. Old and outdated rooms. Shower was so tiny I could barely turn around (I am very petite) but the worst part was, in the evening, the sink which is in main part of room had a burst pipe. Scalding hot water gushed all over the floor and we had to scramble quickly to avoid burnt feet. Maintenance quickly came and repaired/cleaned up. But guess what, IT HAPPENED AGAIN, next night. We were not offered any discount or really any apology except from the very nice maintenance worker. The worst hotel experience, especially given price point. Too bad because location and pool were excellent.

This hotel would have gotten 5 stars if their front desk staff was more friendlier and not rude. Nice small cozy 3 star right on the waterfront in Santa Barbara. there are two pools ( heated ) on two sides of the property, which is nice. Easy access to the pier , closer to state street/restaurents. Front desk staff wasnt helpful, it felt like they were doing me a favor by staying in this hotel. Valet staff was awesome. You have to always valet your car here

We've stayed at Hotel Milo in the past, and this time came with two other couples on Amtrak from San Juan Capistrano. We arrived at the station, which is 3 blocks from the hotel, and walked through the neighborhood to the hotel. It's a fairly easy walk with minimal luggage, but wouldn't recommend it if you have a few large bags. I had called the hotel to see if the had a van that could pick us up, but they do not. We arrived before the 3pm check in time, but our rooms were ready. It was a Sunday, so suspect they were not very full. After securing our bags in the rooms, we embarked on a walking tour of the West Beach area. One of the main attractions of the Hotel Milo is its central location to this area. Over the next two days we thoroughly explored the West and East Beach areas, and the Funk Zone with its eateries, breweries and wineries, as well as the harbor and Stearns Wharf. There are so many great restaurants in this small area that it's deal for kicking back and enjoying a variety of cuisines. We all found the hotel to be very comfortable, although the furnishings in our room were sparse and a bit worn. There was a fold out sofa bed (which we didn't use) which was placed in an alcove with no real exposure to the rest of the room. Overall the room was clean. We had a convenient patio area with gas fire pit that made for a great place to enjoy snacks and a glass of wine (but you have to bring your own or purchase from the lobby). There is no on site restaurant, but the hotel surrounds Chad's, which serves superior breakfasts and lunches. The hotel's check out time is the standard 11am, but our train did not depart until almost 2, so I asked for a 1pm check out, and they said it would cost an additional $50. They did allow for a noon check out, and provided us a place to store our bags until we departed. It was a very mellow place to be across from the beach with an ocean view.

This was my second visit to Hotel Milo, and it never disappoints. It's beautifully placed directly across the street from the water, and there are so many walkable shops and places to eat. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, as are the beds. We love the gardens and little walkways on the property. The staff is stellar.

The other reviews are quite accurate -- the property and location is beautiful but the rooms are shabby and in dire need of renovation. Lots of people working to keep the grounds clean, fire pits lit, etc., but needs some investment in new furniture, mattresses, bathroom renovations, etc. to bring the rooms up to snuff. Halfway through our stay, the jacuzzi broke. This was after watching the jacuzzi be treated like a kiddie pool by other guests with children splashing in and out, some clearly too young to be in a hot tub. After sitting in the soupy, cloudy-water for a while with hair ties and napkins floating around, realizing it was cooling down and no jets, we called the front desk and they let us know it was indeed broken and would be for the rest of our stay, maintenance just hadn't put a sign out yet. Upon check out I mentioned this again to the front desk and asked if they could do anything -- no was the answer, not even take the two way overpriced Perriers ($15!!) off of our bill. Pros: Great location, nice grounds, and public areas, beach and park nearby. Cons: Rooms are seriously dated, mattresses are springy and lumpy, and front desk, while generally polite, seems to be indifferent about resolving complaints or making even token efforts to addressing guest complaints. My guess is their hands are tied by the owners/GM who will surely respond to this review by saying they'd be happy to show me a better room next time, as they do to all the other poor reviews on this site. He also mentions the 121 rooms they have, as if that somehow explains why clearly, going off this website, a great many of them are shabby and in need of renovation.

Response from Robert Glock, General Manager at Hotel Milo Santa Barbara
Responded Jan 19, 2024
Sorry that we did not fully meet your expectation, but thank you for the positive comments regarding the grounds. And you are correct about removing the Perrier from your bill for the unexpected hot tub inconvenience; that was a miss on the part of the front desk agent as they do have the opportunity to make those sorts of judgement calls. I will share this with their manager and remind the team myself of this. We do hope that you will visit again.
