First of all, Limon is a hole in a wall stop off. So get your gas, pee and move on. There's NOTHING there, it's like a ghost town BARELY surviving. It thrives because it's a fuel stop between two LONG points of a LONG drive from East to West. There are 2 exits. Heading west, SKIP the first exit, that's where all of these type places are. The second exit is more updated and modern. That's where you NEED to exit....

Hotel? The place is just downright bizarre to be honest. It doesn't look or smell or feel right. I don't think I have ever seen a hotel like this. Buildings here....other buildings there....then a couple buildings all by themself in the middle of the parking lot, like HEY, let's add on a building here so we can cram in more people. If you're traveling with your family.....it's REALLY best to stay clear of it. Seriously. The people were nice enough. Never rude or mean as Hotel Hell review 1 said. But it's not "right". It's off a few notches from normal and you can just sense it.

There's an undertone of drugs and druggies everywhere. A really young guy apparently owns it and runs it. And we too, found the room AC didn't work and it was hot. His advice??? Yes, he ACTUALLY said this. "Open the sliding doors on the balcony and let a cross breeze go through the room." When I told him that the DOOR to the room had to be open to accomplish this, he said "Yeah, I leave MY hotel room door OPEN all the time, I live here." Nicely, I said I am with my WIFE, I am NOT leaving our hotel door open all night as we sleep.....

They offered another room....and man oh man, only then was the TRUE nature of this place exposed when we saw the other room... Ours was a Trump Suite compared to this thing. Down a LONG, dark hallway....room had door kicked in.....locks were shabby and didn't work....locks were hardware store latch locks like you'd use on an outside utility room.....room smelled like URINE and was just the worse room I have EVER seen. Druggies stayed here on a LONG binge and were probably kicked out.

I politely rejected the room and asked for a refund. They did NOT argue with me at all and were VERY nice and gave me a refund. Course....they had no choice and I think they read that in my face. I had just wasted 45 mins of my time UNPACKING everything to an upstairs room with no elevator, stairs only, with nasty, outdoor RED carpet everywhere and NO AC. Then walked back to the lobby, got key, walked another mile to junky room, back to lobby, then back to old room to repack truck. Yeah, I was in NO mood to hear ANYTHING about not giving me a refund. If they had pulled what they did to the other reviewer, refusing to give a refund, I would have punched someone in the face at that point and just left and simply disputed the charge and got a refund anyway, so I could have cared less.

The guy who owns it / runs it, he is really a nice guy. But again, you can tell, it's like "How did this young guy EVER afford a place this big?" And he is WAY over his head. Him, his staff and all others who worked there were ALL young, biker looking types. The place is, well, it's not a family hotel, ok? You get my drift? Now, if you're a biker and you're looking to hang out with these guys and drink some beers with them, I am POSITIVE you would get along with them great and probably have a great time!!!! I didn't find them mean. Just not educated properly or well versed enough about how you are SUPPOSED to run a motel. They are winging it. Like it was dropped off in his lap the day before.

Truth be told, had I been by myself, I may have hung out and had some fun with them. The people were nice, can't say that enough. But my review IS about the hotel itself, and it's just not the kind of hotel any decent person would stay at.

This is by far the most disgusting place I have ever stayed. When I say that, I truely mean it. I traveled for 4 years overseas in 3rd world countries on a shoestring & I never stayed in a place this gross. At least the other places I stayed (overseas) took pride in their establishments, regardless of their lack of resources. This place was completley overpriced and made me & I my family feel as if the hottest, longest shower in the world couldn't get the gross off of us. It was HORRIBLE!!!!! Please spend the extra $10 and stay someplace clean & safe. I can't believe this place isn't shut down yet, it should be.

This motel was dirty and horribly maintained. I didn't expect much, just needing a quick overnight and hoping for something clean and reasonably comfortable. The room was in need of repairs. It smelled a bit odd. When I pulled back the covers on one of the beds, it was clearly dirty--stained and with lots of black specks that might have come from a person or an insect--I didn't check too closely. The other bed looked better, but still with some of those specks (and I am not a neat-freak by any means!) The whole place just had a slimy feel and I would never stay there again even if it meant sleeping in my car at a rest area.

When I walk into a hotel I'm looking for four things: cleanliness, safety, a good night of sleep and value for my money.

Was 1st Inn clean? Yes.

Did I feel safe here? Yes.

Did we all sleep well? Yes, very well.

Do I feel I got a good return on my money? Yes.

Are the owners/managers young and tattooed? Yes. And that has exactly nothing to do with the quality of my stay.

The hotel is aged. However, this makes it harder, not easier to keep clean. Our room was clean, with no funky smells. The workers were very polite and were handling a line of people checking in with patience and grace.

As a mother traveling cross country with my children and needing a safe, clean place to sleep, this checks all the boxes. And it was inexpensive.

I stopped here because it was storming and everything else in town was booked. This place is disgusting. The furniture was filthy, the bathtub had scum and hair in it, there were roaches, my 7 year old was scared and so was I. the room may have been worth $5 a night not the $86 I paid before I knew what I was getting into. If I hadn't been so desperate for a place to sleep I would have insisted on getting my money back.

We booked the room online because it was the cheapest we could find in the area (about $55), but when we rolled into town at 12am the sign over the hotel stated it was about $20 cheaper than the online price. When my husband inquired about the lower fee, we were told we had to pay the online price. We also picked this hotel because they allowed pets and we were traveling with our dog.

This hotel wasn't even worth the $30 some dollars advertised on the billboard outside. It was the nastiest hotel that my husband and I had ever stayed at. Our room door didn't even lock properly and at one time in the middle of the night it blew WIDE open!! When we tried to inspect the windows before oging to bed, we realized there was NO lock on the window. Someone could come and go as they pleased.

The carpeting was 70's styles red shag, prompting us to wonder if it was installed to hide blood puddles and we wondered if it had ever been vacuumed or shampooed. The shower had nasty crusties covering the shower door. I felt compelled to take a shower the next morning because I felt so nasty. Keep in mind I laid down a towel in the shower so i would have to step on the actual porcelain surface. My husband felt so grossed out, we wasnt even able to take a shower.

Neither one of us slept very good. After rolling in at 12am we were hoping for a good night's rest, but we couldn't fall asleep without thinking about bugs crawling through our hair . (We didn't actually see any... just felt like they could be there). We ended up watching TV until 3am. Our dog was also uncomfortable, as he wouldnt lay down and sleep. He paced the room and sniffed the carpet until 3am when he jumped on the bed with us.

We high tailed it out of there by at 6am. All I can say is "DRIVE ON BY... YUCK!"

My friend and I were looking for an inexpensive motel along I-70 as we traveled from Denver to Kansas. 1st Gold Inn Limon seemed to fit the bill.

Where do I begin? From the filthy front office to the empty, beer-can laden parking lot...to the decrepit building adjacent to the motel strip with insulation hanging from a falling ceiling (see the pictures)...and to the filthy trash barrel reeking of filth and decay directly in front of the door to the room we were given. And I haven't even gotten to the room.

On entering our room, while it appeared old and outdated, it initially appeared clean. However, it was ungodly hot. I flipped the thermostat on the wall to the open position....and NOTHING. It was then I realized it wasn't a functioning thermostat. I then noticed the hole in the wall where the A/C unit once had been......cheaply covered over with plywood (see picture). When the lights on our car were on, you could see them from the room THROUGH the holes in the wall. I returned to the front office and asked for a different room.

The next room reeked of cigarette smoke, years and years of it. I had requested a non-smoking room. Back to the front desk.

Our THIRD room was on the second floor (which was a ghost town with the other 3 motel guests on the ground floor) which I accessed by climbing a dark, damp cement staircase with torn carpet treads and which had parts of the ceiling hanging down from water damage. At that point, I didn't want to see the room because I was afraid for my own safety.

I returned to the front office and told them that I wanted a refund and that I would not stay in a motel that had so many obvious safety issues. The woman behind the desk issued me a BOGUS refund slip which never made it back to my credit card account.
I gave it two days and contacted Travelocity, despite their no-refund policy. I explained my concerns and how they should NOT be allowing this motel to advertise on their website. They contacted the 1st Gold Limon Motel and they refused to refund my money. DISHONEST AND SHAMEFUL. I also have an issue with Travelocity....they have not taken this motel off of their website. WHERE IS THE CONCERN FOR THE ORDINARY TRAVELLER? I am writing this review for YOU, the traveler, so you do not visit this s*ithole of a motel. I can not imagine a young person, or a woman with child, or a solo traveler, or ANYONE, staying overnight in this disgusting, unsafe place.

Please do NOT book this hotel. Stay safe.

I returned to the office

Traveling coast to coast westbound with wife and two kids on the way to Boulder CO from Salina KS. The town of Limon is nothing to write about and gas is about 60 cents more expensive than in Salina. This motel was ok, not very clean, not fancy, but cheap..... Only fifty a night. I put a tshirt on top my pillow, and it made it more pleasant. The motel is ok for the price.

Pulled in at 1am & got the Bates motel suite. Off in the corner amidst the ruble of the remodel. I hope it was just late and all they had left, but we had to kill mucho flies before we could get to sleep. Charged us $60 and we were definitely over charged.
