We stay here a lot! Never had a bad time! Bring your food and grill or cook in the nice kitchen. Fishing on the private pier is a great add on! Parking is a bit of a hike but they provide large pull carts to transport your belongings. We have stayed in almost every cabin there. Very few issues with any of them. People that stay in 5 star hotels are going to hate it here because its rustic and charming NOT for the spa people. Ms Kim is great from check in to check out!!! This is an old military base and the history and feel just takes over you the second you set foot on the property. THIS IS MY FAMILY GO TO PLACE!! Shoot even our dog is welcome to stay with us ... even on the pier or private beach area.. HE feels at home there as well!

Being a teacher, I needed to get away from the constant noise of children. I found the peace and quiet I needed on the private front porch of our IRLWC cottage. Actually, read a book. The kitchen had everything we needed, a great grill, and an outside picnic table. Beds were comfortable. Steve and the boys caught a lot of fish and we actually saw many different kinds of birds which I love. Old Florida with a surprising update.

The cottages or “duplexes” looked nice from the outside, but the inside was disgusting. Filthy AC units we had to clean, filthy fans we cleaned. Windows so dirty we couldn’t see through them, carpet filthy with dirt and dog hair, but we couldn’t vacuum it because the vac was so full it couldn’t be used. Carpet had not even been vacuumed! The list goes on and on….I went out the back to see the clothesline area they advertise and all I saw was a nasty, moldy gross, muddy area and a huge leak coming from the kitchen sink pipe on the wall. Don’t even think about sitting on the living room or the lanai furniture for any length of time. Those cushions wore out long before they bought them at the thrift store. I can’t believe we waisted our rare vacation in this filthy uncomfortable place. We would have left if there was anything available on short notice in peak Fl. Season. Now I know why they have a no refund policy…

This place is old however some has been updated like the shower and the owners are continuing to work on the updates. However the shower does not have a place to hold your shampoo nor provide soap nor shampoo. Be prepared to put it on the ground of the shower.

The booking receipt on Hotels.com was over $100 LESS than what they charged my credit card after arriving. The property is NOT worth what they charge, Believe everything you read here, the reviews on Expedia are lies. Being that close to the river you have to take measures to avoid rodents, but to be sitting on the couch and watch a rat run across the living room floor at the price of almost $200 a night seems absurd!!. The owners never responded to my inquiry about the money difference. The kitchen had plates and bows BUT NO silverware at all. The "porch" had hanging screen, and a hug hole right at the door. The floors are warped and dangerous, the cabins are very old and musty, be prepared. Would NOT recommend it and will never go again.

Reserved a 3 night Birthday getaway with my wife. The pictures they show look great. ( Conditions in pictures DO NOT reflect reality) According to THEIR policy they are suppose to charge $125 deposit & balance upon check in. First they CHANGED my reservation WITHOUT my knowledge & charged my card for the FULL amount not the deposit as STATED in their policy. No one called to say they changed it. They changed it & charged it at 7:23 am, my wife called at 11:30am that same day to inquire about check in instructions, THEN lady says "oh, we changed your reservation" then when my wife asked about canceling & refund she said it has been charged & will take 7-10 business days. If it was the $125 AS STATED, we would have said OK & went elsewhere, not $500 that they charged. My wife not wanting to ruin my Birthday said let's go because the lady said it was an "UPGRADE" We drive 3hrs & stepped into the worst place we have ever stayed. From a roach greeting us at the door & all downhill from there. The moldy musty smell smacks you at the door. The is not one even floor surface in the place. Bugs crawling & flying around you. Had to get insect repellent to sit INSIDE. They front window couldn't close all the way & the bugs were coming in there. The kitchen ceiling look like it would collapse. The back door couldn't open ( per the owner) and no interior door in the place was able to close bedroom, bathroom. A spider was having dinner on a worm under the dining table. My wife was getting eaten alive,.bumps & whelps. Shower was atrocious,.mold or mildew on a bed pillow. Black crud on window sills. Another window that wouldn't close & had a piece of BANDAID covering a hole where a mud wasp nest is. My original reservation was a King bed & when I was sent my BOGUS "Upgrade" my reservation said KING BED, yet it was a Queen in room. Then to ice the unhealthy cake there was blood looking spots on the bed sheet. We decided we couldn't stay for our health & safety. We got there around 8pm after a 3hr drive & decided not to sleep & get out of there as soon as we can notify the owners. They didn't open until 8am, soon as I contacted her & told her we were leaving & what to do with key we were out. 12 long hrs. We stayed up documenting the conditions with time stamp photo & video. They refuse to give me a refund for my 2 unused nights, so they think they will get $500 for 12hrs. They didn't honor their policy on charging me, or the conditions, or the King Bed on the agreement. I challenged the charge through my bank & if that doesn't work,.I will consult with an attorney because they have seemed to scam a lot of people with "bait & switch". I will take my videos & photos to media & health department if needed. I say to you travelers don't let the photos fool you. P.S. There is not a single "Waterfront" cottage there

Kim (the woman who answered the phone) was nice at first, allowing us to check in early and allowing us to have an extra parking space. The parking is very limited, so there is no parking for guests. But that is where it ended. The floor in the bedroom and closet was so soft I was afraid I would fall through it. We had brought charcoal and lighter fluid because we had planned to have a cookout/bbq. But the back door was broken, it would not open. Since the outside table and bbq pit are out back, we would have had to walk around the entire building every time we wanted to get something from the cottage. When we called to complain, she said it would be two days before someone could come to look at it and if we didn't like it we COULD LEAVE THE KEY AND GO. Never have I had that kind of experience with a rental, and my husband and I travel a lot. It went to leave a complaint that I looked at the reviews, and lo and behold someone else was told exactly the same thing......LEAVE THE KEY AND GO IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT.

We booked a four night stay, upon arrival, the mildew smell was overwhelming. No one was there to check us in, a key was left on the front porch. I contacted office regarding smell, explaining my husband has allergies, & wasn’t sure he could handle the odor,… he was arriving 2 hours later. The office staff stated they would refund charges if he couldn’t take the smell, to let them know.. I bought a diffuser and plugged it in. The office staff advised me to leave both ac units on high. There was mold visible on both ac interior vents. My husband arrived, unloaded bags, agreeing to try and deal with smell, we turned the lights out, settled in bed for the night. The mattress was wore out, squeeking with the slightest move. We were both scratching, being bitten by something. My husband got up to get water, turning the light on in the kitchen, and Roaches were scattering everywhere on the kitchen floor. They ran under the refrigerator and stove, under the cabinets. We pulled the covers back from the bed, and there were pieces of bugs on the sheets. We called the office, no one answered on Thursday night, we left message, telling them our experience, & we were leaving. We left the key on the porch. That was a Thursday night. No one returned our call all weekend. I called again on Tuesday. No answer. I received a rude email, denying there were bugs, and they stated they would refund the remaining 3 nights promptly. It’s been 3 weeks, & I have NOT received a refund as of yet. I would avoid this HIDEOUS excuse of a Lodge, fish camp, or whatever they are calling it. I have never dealt with such Rude, Dishonest people. I have contacted the Health Department, & licensing department in St. Lucie county. It’s very UNFORTUNATE that I did nothing read their REVIEWS prior to booking. I would never have BOOKED a stay at this location. It is plain to me now, why there is NO OWNER, or Staff on-site. It would not be as EASY for them to take ADVANTAGE of their guest. AVOID this place at all cost!

Response from Robert Pruitt, Owner at Indian River Lagoon Waterfront Cottages
Responded Nov 2, 2021
We are very sorry you didn't enjoy your stay The smell is the Dade County pine floors circa 1950, and some with allergies don't like. As far as mold we are inspected twice each year by the state and there is none. The cottages are in very good condition they are not for everyone. We have no office onsite but the owners are there daily, we are sorry you did not enjoy your stay but I am sure you enjoyed your full refund. The cottage was rented the next day without issue.

We have the worst cottage here, im guessing I cant imagine one being worse. ( im still here till May 9th )paid $2750 for a month walked around 2 weeks on a wet kitchen floor due to the fridge and sink leaking. The holes in the floors the stains in the carpet the bugs its all just really bad.. There is no window pane in the top half of the window in the bedroom its halfway duct taped so the train is 10x louder. It was busy when we got here but now there is no one here but one other person. There are 8 other empty cottages and the rude lady on the phone refuses to offer to talk to me about any options of moving to any other empty cottage said im free to just leave!!! WTH ??? I have never heard of such unprofessional treatment anywhere. Even though i have 11 days left already paid here i will be looking for another place as im sure this fly by night, highway robbery, methhouse wont offer any refunds. AVOID AT ALL COST !!!
