We found The Helendorf to be a charming hotel with friendly staff. The hotel is beautifully situated along the Chattahoochee River (steps from the patio literally lead into the river). Pros: -Friendly 24 hour staff. -Amazing riverfront location (pay extra for a riverfront room, you'll be glad you did. We slept with our third story balcony door open as the... More

My wife and I stayed one night ( we wish that we had more time) at the Helendorf River Inn, and we were very glad that we did. We paid a little extra to get a nice room along the Chattahoochee River, and felt like the extra cost was worth it. We paid $113.00 including tax during the week in... More

We have been staying in this hotel for over 20 years for the annual trout tournament held the last weekend in March. The hotel has made significant improvements in the past couple of years. The kitchen has new appliances and the patio along the river has been completely renovated. My only minor complaint was that housekeeping took a little longer... More

I've driven by The Helendorf Inn about 100 times and never really paid any attention. I think it's easy to look past as you're walking or riding around Helen, GA. When I first walked into the lobby it was in completely torn up due to construction. A wonderful young man "Nelson" shared with us all the changes taking place then... More

The Helendorf River Inn is an old hotel but that is the good news as well as the bad news. Because it is old it was built in a prime location: right on the river and downtown! The river is why we stayed a second night. After a day enjoying the winding mountain roads relaxing on our balcony over looking... More

The Helendorf is a great place to stay. The fun section of the hotel is a little "travel worn" but very comfortable. Ask for a room overlooking the rapids (rocks) so you can sit on your balcony in dry comfort and watch the waterlogged tubers float by. When they get to the rapids it's often "bottoms up" as the rapid... More

This is a hotel in serious need of updating. It looks dingy and run-down. That aside, it's not a bad place to stay. We stayed in one of the efficiency rooms, with a kitchenette and two beds. You do have to request plates, silverware, etc. from the front desk as they are not kept in the rooms. The room was... More

We had read such great reviews of this place and were looking forward to trying it for our anniversary weekend in Helen. What a mistake. When we checked in, a friendly staff member asked, "Did you get a call letting you know about the fraternity?" Uh.... no. "A fraternity is in-house this weekend, so expect it to be loud until... This hotel is hands down the best in Helen. We arrived early and we were allowed to check in early. This was my first stay here and that already had me happy. We went to the room and it was exactly as described. It was extremely clean and had a small kitchenette and fridge which was perfect for our snacks.... More
