We have stayed at the Captain Merry more times than I can count. It is truly amazing and not the kind of quality or service you would expect in East Dubuque IL or in even Chicago for that matter ! The owners spared no expense with renovating with high-end products and furniture, The rooms are so spacious, full of character,... more

My husband and I stayed at the Captain Merry in December of 2007 and July of 2007, and both were wonderful experiences. First and foremost, the staff is friendly and down-to-earth - no hoity-toity business, even at such an elegant and beautiful place. We were there for almost a week, and got to know the chef Kevin, restaurant manager Scotty,... more

We have stayed there on many occassions and have always been treated with red carpet treatment. The food is amazing and the service is like your dining at the White House. The suites all are different and each one that we have stayed in is first class or better. R. U. Aurora, IL more

My husband and I stayed for two nights on a whim and felt like we were royalty! Ken (the innkeeper) was there to anticipate our every need before we even recognized that we had one! We enjoyed a couple's massage and a wonderful dinner in the restaurant. I'd put that food against any 5 star restaurant in a big city.... more

I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews of the Captain Merry - I wonder if the property has been recently renovated or changed management. Our recent weekend visit there was very nice. We stayed in the French suite, which was huge, with a beautiful bathroom and separate sitting room. It was opulently decorated, and so comfortable you just wanted... more

My husband and I had the opportunity to stay at the Captain Merry and very much enjoyed our experience. We stayed in the Mediterranean room - which was lovely. I really was impressed at how the room had a bedroom with a separate sitting area. I spent time just curled up with a book in the comfy chair in our... more

WOW! What a wonderful experience my husband and I had at the Captain Merry. We enjoyed our anniversary dinner there and were treated like royalty. Our waiter and the bartender were very friendly and aware of our every need. The food was very flavorful and served in wonderful timing. I enjoyed a filet and my husband dined on antelope. We... more

We spent a weekend and had a wonderful time. The Egyptian and Mediterranean Suites were beautifully appointed, with great attention to detail. The beds were comfortable in both rooms. It was quiet and private, and the in-room whirlpools were amazing. We had breakfast served in our rooms both mornings, which were tasty. Our two dinners in the dining room were... more

My wife and I have dined at the Captain Merry a few times in the past. After our recent experiences, we will never go back. What was once an elegant, formal dining retreat has now become, lazy, sloppy and disheveled. It is disappointing that this place has taken such a nose dive, and I hope that they will be able... more

I am terribly sorry to hear you had such an unpleasant experience. Your feedback has been valuable. Although I was not employed by the Captain Merry when you stayed, I'd like to apologize on behalf of the Captain Merry. We are taking great strides to provide a top-notch experience to our guests. Should you change your mind and decided to...

My husband and I have been planning a weekend trip to stay at the Captain Merry for months in advance. We have stayed at many fine places in Galena before, and decided it was time to finally check out the "infamous Captain Merry" that we had heard so much about. Our experience was greatly disappointing, maybe we were expecting too... more
