I like staying at locally owned properties and this is a good one. Nice clean room, mini-fridge and microwave, good value, very friendly staff. Will definitely stay here again if I am in the area. There was breakfast food available (fruit, cereal, etc), but I never avail myself of hotel breakfasts. The coffee was good.
Fortunately my friends and are I more of the "laugh at the situation" kind of people. Our visit started off with a smokey lobby, a "sausage w/ legs" dog greeting us at door, a TV that was blaring STATIC (the cable's out was later explained to us - never did say why tv was still on??), and a gentleman employee...

I spent the night in Harlan, and was disappointed that the old roadside motel had been demolished. This was the only choice in town, but it wasn't bad.
