Stayed here during my first ever visit to Lansing, IA. I loved the little town, and having your hotel right on Main Street is super-convenient. When we drove into Lansing we thought 'Oh-oh, this could be a problem." The town is obviously struggling through the economic downturn with closed shops and a worn look. However, McGarity's Inn has been remodeled and unless you like to stay at the Hilton, a great find. Yes, you do climb very steep stairs, but the room is worth it.... More

I loved the location. I loved the room - it was so cute! The brick wall added character and I loved the tile turtle in the bathroom. The shower was very modern and very clean. Stayed for 4 days to visit friends. The owners did a wonderful job restoring and updating an old building in downtown Lansing.. One block to the Mississippi River. On Main Street with lots of neat shops (arts & crafts, souvenirs, art/frames, restaurants, etc.) I recommend walking the 2 blocks to The Safehouse - nice, nonsmoking pub with friendly locals.
