we chose a campground because i needed to be eased into the idea of camping so i wanted the amenity of plumbing and we wanted to be near acadia national park. there are definitely trails and sights for the national park within a few minutes drive of this campground, but we didn't realize that we'd be spending so much time... My husband and I just returned from Acadia National Park and spent 3 nights at Smugglers Den. We didn't make reservations months or even weeks in advance, and the campgrounds inside the park were already booked. We decided on Smugglers Den and were so pleased once we arrived and set up camp. They had everything we needed from hot and... More

We stayed here 3 nights in our motorhome in July 2012. Our site was nicely shaded but not all were. The staff was friendly. Lobsters and lobster boiling equipment were available at the camp store. The location was great, convenient to Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor, and Acadia Nat. Park. The campground was on the bus route if you did not... More

This was a family trip that's been planned for almost a year. There are 6 adults (3 couples) and one child. The plan was we would get a premium RV site and couple+child would put up a tent on the same site. My in-laws are not new to making RV reservations, nor is this set up new for us, and... More

Once again we stayed in one of the rustic cabins at Smugglers Den. Since we have been staying here for several years it feels like coming home to old friends. Dave and Spike always stop by to say hello during our first day. Rain always welcomes us when we check in, it is nice to check in somewhere and be... More

We stayed for 5 days in one of the Deluxe cabins..it was wonderful..it was a beautiful cabin. Immaculate & was "stocked" to the hilt!!! You really don't need to drag all of your camping gear if you stay in the deluxe cabin..plates, pots & pans, silverware, glassware, trash bags, dish soap, coffee pot, toilet tissue, even a cork screw which... We stayed Memorial Day weekend,2012. The noise level was incredibly loud, with no real enforcement of quiet hours. No less than 5 people wandered through our site to cut through to get to the party site. There was loud cussing, sexual derogatory comments and a general lack of attention from camp management. This is by no means a place for... More

Arrived on Saturday before Irene made her presence known. Lost power for a short period of time bvut never a porblem at Smugglers Den. Stayed two weeks and had a great time as usual. Owners installed a new playground so familys with youngsters will have a better than ever stay. Already planning next years stay. Staff are the greatest.

This was our third time staying at Smuggler's Den and we wouldn't stay at another campground on MDI. The shuttle bus to Bar Harbor and other points on MDI make it a real convenience.Owners and staff are the best. Short walk to the Top of the Hill for a really great dinner.
