While the lodge is stunningly situated, it may be that guests can only expect a pleasant experience in summer. Night temps where under freezing, and with the generator not working that meant no lights, no heating, no kettle the entire time we were there . On top of that we did not get sufficient blankets or pillows, and the worst... More

This lodge is really first class. Food is very good, rooms are excellent. But the best thing is that this lodge owns half of the fishriver canyon. Private tours will take you to the quiet side of the canyon where there are no other tourists whatsoever!

Vogelstrausskluft Lodge wowed me from the moment I arrived. The staff was incredibly friendly and flexible - they created a custom day trip into Fish River Canyon that I will never forget. The food was brilliant and the lodge was gorgeous. It is an incredibly romantic place to go and get away from crowds. I would highly recommend this to... More

We can recommend this lodge to all our friends and family! The lodge is beautiful, the staff is very friendly, the food is amazing and the rim-drive and the lunch in the canyon is magic! Guy & Eveline, Maastricht, the Netherlands!

We booked the Fish River Canyon Experience and stayed here for two nights. The rooms and lodge itself are well appointed and decorated. Service was excellent, despite being the only guests in the lodge on our first night, and the managers Pieter and Suzanne made us feel right at home. The most impressive thing about this lodge is, by far,... More

Superb and luxurious lodge with probably the best thatched main lounge/bar/dining area/library of any lodge in southern Africa! Lovely pool deck overlooking small cliffs - the rooms are luxuriously fitted with en-suites and airconditioning. The lodge is on 26000 hectares and the first 50miles/81 kms, YES 50 MILES! of the Fish River Canyon belongs to the lodge. We went on... More

We had a two nights here at a most awe inspiring special desert treat. It is situated in a very scenic area and we partook in activities with twilight view over the Canyon and walk down the canyon. The hosts are delightful people

We stayed here during our honeymoon in Namibia. We had only booked high-end accommodation and Vogels was the best lodge at which we stayed. It was also very reasonably priced compared to its peers and so was the best value acommodation too. We were greeted with a warm welcome and upgraded to a suite as we were honeymooners. Upon entering... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Our exquisite four-star lodge is situated in the Nama Karoo, one of four very impressive desert landscapes in Namibia. The world renowned Fish River Canyon can be seen from various vantage points on the rim of the canyon. This magnificent view in which the harshness as well as the breathtaking beauty of the desert is simultaneously embodied, will forever form a precious part of any nature lover’s memory. Visitors gain access to Vogelstrausskluft Lodge by passing over a small hill. From there, the vast open space unfolds and bids an unforgettable welcome which stretches across the grassy valley that hosts waterholes where animals drink especially during dusk and dawn. Vogelstrausskluft offers unique possibilities for exploring not only the canyon but also various wonders of the desert habitat. Resettled species that can be found here are kudu, oryx, springbok, zebra, caracal "rooikat") and leopard. Guests are received at the lodge with typical Namibian hospitality. Here they can experience excellent and traditional cuisine offered in the distinctive and remarkable atmosphere a four star lodge amidst the contrasting severeness of the stark landscape. Vogelstrausskluft without doubt offers any visitor a unique and memorable experience. The almost brutal atmosphere embedded in the harshness of bright, red Kalahari sand dunes and the natural wonder of the canyon is a timeless experience which should not be missed by any nature lover, adventurer or holiday maker! ... more   less
