My husband and I were looking for somewhere special to go for our 30th wedding anniversary. We found this on the St Joseph visitor web site. This is a neat old mansion near downtown St Joe and is in walking distance of many restraurants. We enjoy seeing old homes and hearing about the history associated with them. Isabel was a... More

What a perfect place and setting for a wedding. My husband Mike and I got married there June 1, 2013. Everything was so perfect and beautiful. Mike's Aunt Janet couldn't have picked a better place for us. It is a place we will for sure go back to and remember for ever. The second you walk in you know it's... More

My husband and I celebrated our 29th anniversary on our way home from a trip. We found Shakespeare Chateau B & B on TripAdvisor. We were pleasantly surprised at this wonderful mansion in the heart of old St. Joseph. The history is incredible. Isobel was a gracious hostess and very informative of the mansion. The restoring she has done is... More

Words can not express the beauty contained within the walls of the historic Ogden Mansion, also known as the Shakespeare Chateau. It's still under renovation in the dining room and third level of the mansion but the majority of it is done and pristine. Isabel has done an amazing job of restoring the home to it's original state including replicating... More

We stayed here for a weekend getaway for our 40th anniversary and found it most enjoyable from the moment we walked thru the front door to the breakfast the morning we left. Isobel graciously gave us a tour thru the entire home and told us about the house's past lives and plans she has for it in the future. We... More

We stayed at this beautiful B&B as a quick weekend away from Kansas City and it exceeded our every expectation. The house is being beautifully restored by Isobel, the innkeeper, who is a wealth of fabulous information about the house and the time period. Breakfasts were delicious and the rooms very comfortable. We hope to come back again!

Great place to stay. The entire house is beautiful. We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet Suite. I loved how large the room was, much more spacious than staying in a hotel. This suite also attaches to the parlor next door which was nice. It both gave us some extra space and let me watch what I wanted on tv... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The majestic Shakespeare Chateau was built in 1885 by Nathan Ogden when St. Joseph Missouri was known as "The Queen of the River Cities." High atop a bluff looking down across the city toward the Missouri River, 809 Hall Street is one of several mansions in the Hall Street Historic District known locally as "Millionaires' Row." You'll enjoy meeting the friendly innkeeper, Isobel, as she takes you through the palatial interior. You'll marvel at 47 (yes, 47!) original stained glass windows, carved cherrywood and walnut mantles, and of course, a bust of the Bard himself above the grand fireplace in the front foyer. But most of all, you'll enjoy our comfortable sleeping rooms, each one beautifully appointed with fabulous art and antiques and luxurious linens. ... more   less
