There are many good things to say about this place. We visited with two girls, 5 and 7, for 7 nights. We have a great time. The views are breathtaking, the pool is big, clean and with a fantastic view. The place is vibrant of history and rooms are spacious, clean and nice. Hosts are friendly, helpful and very Italian - speaking English is not great, but it is possible to understand and we found it very charming. They were very helpful in finding recommendations for stuff to see, where to buy stuff, where to eat if not at the place itself where Lucia makes the food (and it is wonderful) and Massimo serves. Not enough positive things can be said about the place. Do yourself a favor - book now. Suggest you book the apartment Ulivi or Gelsomino - as if you don’t leave the premises for lunch it is nice to have a fridge for yourself (we used the communal one).

In 2014 our family of 20 stayed here for 5 nights. We held our children's wedding outside. We picked the sunflowers from the field nearby to decorate indoors. We enjoyed the fabulous vegan meals: no caffeine, no meat, no alcohol.. (We found these nearby when we couldn't maintain our fast!). Every morning we loaded up to visit Gubbio, Assisi, Perugia,.. so many wonderful excursions. Hopefully we will return someday. We pray the pandemic goes away soon.

We just spent two weeks at Val di Boccio and can’t decide what we loved best - the fabulous dinners, walks in the idyllic setting, generous and pristine pool, visits to feed the donkeys, the kids playground, the playful twin kittens? All came together to make a perfect stay for our young family. Many of the families we met come every year and one Italian guest even shyly admitted the food was better than his mother’s! Day trips to Perugia, Assisi and Gubbio were another treat. Local shops are a short drive away and there are good facilities to prepare your own lunches as well as for laundry. Massimo and Lucia work very hard to make each stay special. Particularly with Covid restrictions a few changes have been made to keep everyone safe but everything has been done to maximise fun and relaxation in truly breathtaking surroundings.

Our umpteenth stay at Val Di Boccio with our family and this year we bring our extended family..! The kids love the food, we love the food, the swimming pool is big enough to swim, play and have fun in and the beautiful Umbrian towns of Perugia, Gubbio and Assisi are all close by for an interesting day trip to return to a sumptuous supper prepared by Lucia.

A beautiful place to stay. Friendly staff, great views & fantastic food. The rooms are comfortable and practical with facilities to cook your own meals if you want to - but we never did as the evening meals were excellent and good value for money. The WiFi was hit and miss but we brought a booster with us which helped and what do you expect in such a remote and beautiful area?Massimo who manages Val di Boccio was friendly and helpful. Best of all was meeting so many different people from all over the world in this amazing part of Italy.

Idyllic location, fabulous hosts, amazing food, wonderful community. Our family included two teens/preteens and their grandmother, and we all cite our stay at Val di Boccio as the highlight of the 2 1/2 weeks we spent in Italia. Lucia and Massimo are lovely; the dinners were the best we had during our entire trip. Perfect location for day trips to nearby hill towns. We look forward to returning!

We had a fantastic week at this country retreat. The layout and communal dinners encouraged meeting other travelers, which made our stay especially fun. Please keep in mind that this is a rural farmhouse, not a luxury getaway in Rome. That is the point. There will be some bugs - bring bug spray and maybe a battery-operated camp fan for sleeping. There will be animals - wonderful cats and farm animals to keep you or your kids occupied for hours. There will be amazing towns to visit - we enjoyed Assisi in particular (use the local roads instead of the highway!). The skies at night are magnificent and the whole atmosphere of the place is totally charming. Everyone at the farm was kind and welcoming. We appreciated Massimo bringing all the tables outside so we could enjoy the views over delicious dinners. Thank you Val di Boccio for a wonderful retreat! And thank you fellow families and couples for sharing your stories and friendship!

Charming. Serene. Beautiful. We stayed for 6 nights and everything was perfect. Our 4 year old son got to feed the donkeys every morning and watch the chickens and the three goats. The grounds are rustic and beautifully kept. The views are unspoiled and beautiful. The pool is beautiful as well. What is even more beautiful are the people who run this establishment - Massimo and Lucia are two of the most wonderful people you could ever meet. They offer a delicious breakfast that is included with your stay and the option of dining downstairs in their restaurant at dinner in the evening at 8:00 p.m./20:00. This gives you plenty of time to go and see Italy and the surrounding areas and then make it home for dinner. The food is absolutely amazing - I cannot underscore this enough! Everything is homemade, delicious and plentiful. The pasta is better than anything that I have had back home. The second course of meat was always delicious. The tomatoes and vegetables were perfectly done. It is truly a gem in Umbria and while there we met other wonderful people staying there from places like Australia, England, and Canada. Wake up and have breakfast. Plan your day and be back for dinner. It is the true Italian countryside nestled in the hills of Casacastaldo. Thank you Massimo and Lucia- we wish you all the best!
