My husband and I stayed two nights while seeing the sights in the area. High Plains is very unique. It's like stepping back into an old western town complete with a cookshack, saloon, jail, livery stable, meandering cats and theme rooms. We stayed in The Warrior which was tastefully decorated in an Native American theme. On our second night we... More

Lovely people and rustic barren setting. Hearty meals, clean rooms. Delightfully windy with the fresh smell of sage. The landscape is one of crystal agate buttes and vast ranches. The Kesslers are good people with open hearts and they'll make you get up at day break for your morning meal. To make the experience richly western, the water has a... More

Out in the middle of nowhere, High Plains Homestead was a great place to stay. Linda was so sweet and a wonderful host. Beds are a bit hard and not real comfortable, but it's rustic. Enjoyed watching deer walk right up close in the evening. Only thing was the smell of the water. Smells of sulfur which was hard to... More

Even though one is able to feel as though he or she is in the middle of nowhere in a ramshackle town of the Old West it is very close to the Hudson-Meng boneyard and kill site, Toadstool National Geologic Park, and Fort Robinson. One could go back to overnight here and head to Mt Rushmore, Pine Ridge, Hot Springs,... More

16 miles down an unpaved road. Across a railway line. Then you see a Wild West town set in the Badlands of Nebraska. My family had a great 2 night stay with the Kesselrings. The cabins were clean and comfortable. The food was great (I recommend Lindas cooking--especially the pies!!). You go to sleep after seeing thousands of stars and... More

High Plains Homestead is way out in the middle of nowhere, a good many miles on unpaved roads. It is wonderful. There is an ramshackle old west boardwalk motif to the place with numerous outbuildings filled with interesting stuff. Cats, buffalo and chickens are about, the latter providing breakfast eggs. Our room had a B&B feel to it with a... More

Most folks who live in the Front Range of Colorado don't often think of vacationing in Nebraska. But they should. Good, interesting mountain biking, excellent fossil and rock hunting, star gazing, theater, history...and perhaps most striking, a genuine impression of being somewhere 'different.' Sure, everybody speaks english, but when you are sitting on a quiet porch, as the sun sets... More
