Room was dated but clean and tidy. The heater, however, barely worked. We ate dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and on both occasions we met and talked to the Marshall - a very interesting guy! The food was passable; staff friendly and helpful. All in all a motel that fits in with the quirky character of Magdalena.

Comfortable bed in clean room! AC, heat, microwave, refrig, coffee machine. Kind of retro funky! Lovely quilt on the wall. TV with movie channel. Walk to restaurant at hotel, convenience store, or quiet little bar. Quiet with a good night's sleep!

I've stayed at both motels in Magdalena. Both are old but adequately maintained. The High Country Lodge has less noisy air conditioners and provides a frig and microwave so I stay there if rooms are available. The restaurant is OK too. It just re-opened. The management was friendly and opened the restaurant an hour early to benefit a local event... More

The night manager was a slob. Sleezy with the teenage girls in the group. Best to check in during the day when it is hopefully some one else. Feels like the Bates Motel at night. Place was empty. Restaurant not open.

There is not a lot of choice in Magdalena. As so many places rich in history, modernity has pretty much passed the place by leaving quaint old buildings from a time when construction was unique and pride was taken in workmanship. The High Country Lodge is one of only a very few places for overnight accomodations. I chose a double... More

This is the neatest little place. Clean and comfy and superior customer service. They have a restaurant on site called Mary Mac's Cafe and the food and service was awesome. I stayed and extra day because I felt so comfortable. Lovely!

Staying at the hotel is like taking a trip back in time. it's very quaint and rustic. The rooms are small but they are all equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee pot. You couldn't ask for a friendlier staff!!

One of 2 little old motels in Magdalena with a really sweet owner. My wife was looking at geodes in a glass case by the check-in desk and he asked if she had an interest in rocks. They chatted for an hour about his amateur digs in the nearby mountains, brought out other cases full of beautiful rocks and even... More

I have stayed at this motel two or three times in the past. Given that it is one of two in Magdalena, it was OK. One time they messed up a reservation and had us down as arriving a day before we actually arrived. But this last time, management achieved new depths of flakiness. I made a reservation for a... Socorro looked boring to me so I decided to spend the night here while visiting this part of NM. I like the older mom & pops. I asked for a room with a firm bed, and the woman at the desk went through the extra trouble to check a few rooms for me. Great service! The bed was very comfortable... More
