we stayed in Santa Maria at Hotel Nha Terra in Sept. 2010. The room was cleaned and the service carefully complied all our requests, the location just in front of the Santa Maria beach and a few steps from the centre of the village.

Do not stay at Nha Terra. The cleaners stole 100 euro from my travel bag. When we reported this to the Sal police, they told us that it was not the first time.

Plus: it's basic, and that's what you pay for. Cons: Atmosphere, not really friendly. Facilities in general; Pool, bar, AC, restaurant. Closed or not working.
