Convenient location, easy to go around the town, free access to the parks if you camp here. The bathroom and shower are very clean, well maintained the campground. Check the map before you make the reservation, our site was too close to the railroad, so you can imagine how noise it is when trains pass by.

While visiting the Finger Lakes, this is a must stop, IF you are physically able to climb steep wet steps because this requires a lot of climbing (over 800 steps!). The round trip hike is about 3 miles and passes 19 beautiful waterfalls, going behind two of them. You will be stopping to take plenty of pictures so as long... More

Please don't take another reviewer's comments about site 231 & the train barreling through as a deterrent to staying here. I inadvertently clicked "like" on that review & that wasn't my intention. 3 of us have enjoyed a girls camping weekend @ Watkins Glen for 10+yrs every year & are fully aware of the train that rumbles through on the... The grounds are dense, lush and loaded with trees and shade, which is great. And our site was large. It seems like a lot of the sites we saw were also pretty roomy! We liked the fire pit and the privacy at the back of our site. The only drawbacks: there was a large, loud group of inconsiderate people camping... More

We wandered the park grounds early in the morning. The falls and the gorge were beautiful. It seemed to get quite busy on the paths after a little bit but who wouldn't want to enjoy all that beauty. Well worth the pit stop on our road trip to nowhere!

We took our first trip to the Finger Lakes region and stayed at 3 different campgrounds: WG, Taughannock Falls and Buttermilk Falls. Camping here is certainly not the same as our usual trips to Northern New England where we are either in the deep woods and mountains or on the Atlantic coast of Maine. Another reviewer hit the nail on... More

Hiking is amazing. Our camping experience was horrible. I have camped my ENTIRE life and I've never had anything stolen. We went hiking at Watkins Glen, came back around 1:30 pm for some lunch and pulled up to our site to find that our tent was gone. It was a big tent too - 14x9 so it must have taken... More

Beautiful site located 10 yards from train track! The earth shakes, train and track noise is LOUD! It sounds like the train is going to derail and fall on the tent. It awoke us at 11:30 pm and we thought we were in the middle of a major catastrophy. It scared the hell out of us!!! DO NOT CAMP IN... More

We stayed in a tent at the campground for 3 days. We really liked the location and our loop (Seneca village) and would recommend the sites on the outer edge of that loop. The bathrooms were not that great compared to some other campgrounds we've been at (dirtier, showers not as nice...). It's very conveniently close to the gorge trail... More

First, people don't camp here to be alone in nature, the are there to see the gorge, or go swimming, or whatever, but the campground is basically just up the road from the town of Watkins Glen. This makes for some nice things: Modern bathrooms and showers, a swimming pool (closed when we were there Memorial Day weekend), easy access... More
