Sitting on the sun porch or open deck at SeaGlass, at high tide, is like looking out from an ocean cruise - all you see is beautiful blue ocean. SeaGlass is the main floor and second floor of a beautifully and sensitively rehabbed old house. (There is a very nice smaller separately-rented smaller unit below.) The owners (who live next door), Clyde and Susan, have stripped the hardwood floors, installed many new windows, decorated with period furnishings and creative decorative touches, and done a beautiful job painting (inside and out). It's a step back in time, but with modern bathrooms on both floors and a very complete kitchen. It is obvious, inside and out, that both Clyde and Susan are artists. They take great pride in what they've done and they should! Upstairs is a single queen-bedded bedroom with closet (and lots of hangers) and a bathroom overlooking the ocean. Downstairs is a living room, kitchen with table and chairs, half-bath, sunny 'sunporch'/family room (with futon), and deck with chairs and table. The kitchen is well-equipped (could use a better sharp knife or two) with everything you need and the bed linens and towels all were just fine. And there's a washer and dryer (greatly appreciated) available beneath the unit. The house is about a quarter mile from the ferry dock in North Cove. It's on the main (as in "only") highway on Grand Manan and, while there is some traffic, it's mighty light by vacation standards and by late afternoon/evening, it all but disappears. If you arrive at high tide and wonder where the ocean went (as in, 'I thought this house overlooked the water'), just wait a few hours because, at high tide, it will seem to be right under your windows (although it isn't literally, because the house sits up on a bit of a bluff). My wife and I enjoyed Clyde and Susan just as much as we enjoyed SeaGlass. They've been everywhere, done everything, adore Grand Manan and have lots of helpful hints. Most of all, they just are great to spend time with. I would only throw in two cautions. If you have difficulty with stairs you should know that the stairway to the second floor is narrow, winding and a bit steep. This was nothing that two fairly chipper 65+-year-olds had any problem with, but it could be a problem for some. Also, this place probably is best for one couple or, maybe, two adult couples (assuming someone wants a futon). If you bring a child or two, I would suggest they not be too young because of the drop-off down to the ocean. Clyde has kept the grasses pretty long along the edge of the bluff to discourage people from getting too near. And, by the way, if it really matters to you, there is WIFI and it is slow. Really a wonderful, soothing place with great owners. Couldn't recommend more highly.…
