Room was really nice, although some things in need of repair The Hotel puts itself out to be a foody destination. It does not live up to the hype. A nice starter, fairly good main course, inedible dessert The staff on front desk, restaurant and bar all seemed very junior and inexperienced Bar was not very welcoming Breakfast was chaotic... The Crown Inn is an old coaching inn, Elizabethan built with original beams etc. It really is a beautiful building. We stayed for one night in a lovely room, one nice touch was that as well as the shower room, there was a freestanding bath in the bedroom too. We had dinner in the restaurant, which was wonderful, and breakfast... More

The Crown Inn is old - VERY old and if you want complete quiet and peace this is not the place for you. The floorboards creak, they slant and the walls are variable in thickness. It's a centuries old place with centuries of additions, build-ons and extensions all from different centuries. This makes it athmospheric and quirky and the recent-ish... More

Very nearly 5 stars (5 stars means perfect in my book), lovely building, big, clean and well appointed room, excellent service and a superb breakfast spread. Cannot complain at the price, the only slight grumble would be the floorboards were a little too creaky, admittedly this gave it a homely feel on arrival but became ever so slightly annoying, but... Dear rnbw Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback following your recent stay with us - I am really pleased you liked our hotel and found the service excellent. The hotel is over 600 years old, and the floorboards are original, I do agree, they can be a little squeaky! We very much look forward to welcoming you... More

Stayed at the Crown for 2 nights between 23rd & 25th April. I had a room in the main building which was set over a couple of floors. The room itself was quite spacious with a very large bed (very comfy) lots of storage and a huge tv on the wall. The bathroom was upstairs and was enormous, large roll... More

Our room was in the main inn, stylish bedrooms, minimal in design but very luxurious. Probably the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in which is always very important to me. The only problem (and this isn’t a criticism, merely a fact of life in an old building) the walls are quite thin and noise does travel from room... More

Dear harrietparkes Thank you so much for taking the time to give feedback following your stay with us at The Crown Inn, I am really pleased you liked the hotel, in particular the beds, which, I have to agree, are extremely comfortable! As we are such an old building noise does travel, I can only hope you weren't too disturbed... More

A lovely building and interesting quality modern rooms. If you stay in the old (original) part of the building expect NOISE. It travels! And some guests/staff very heavy footed indeed! Genuinely - lovely rooms but take ear-plugs. Food for evening meal was excellent - recommended. Breakfast wasn't pretty. We arrived in plenty of time to find no bacon, no croissants... More

Stayed at the Crown Inn for a business meeting back in November and would not hesitate in recommending to anyone needing a place to stay in the Amersham area. The Inn is nicely presented, with clean, modern, reasonably priced rooms, with all the amenities you'd need. The bar area and restaurant are a great place to relax, and the staff... More

I can't speak for the food...just to be up front...but I can speak for the area and the suite I stayed in. VERY comfy bed and lovely squishy pillows (which are really important to me). It seems that most people have a love/hate relationship with the Crown and we fall into the loved it camp. We were upgraded to one of the courtyard rooms and loved the minimalist modern style of the room with the roll top bath, sheepskin hide on the rocker and locally sourced textiles. Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Crown in Old Amersham, situated at the end of the Metropolitan Line and 40 minutes from London, is the second in a family of modern day coaching inns recently renovated by the designer Ilse Crawford (other works include Babington House). The old timber building is situated in the centre of the historic market town, attracting locals, restaurant guests and night time travelers. The inn’s interior is made up of rural materials – from Ercol chairs made in High Wycombe to traditional plaster made from lime and horsehair. The ‘back room’ with its inglenook fire and view of the cobbled courtyard is perfect for private gatherings and feasting of up to 40, while the bar and restaurant area is the communal heartbeat of the inn. The kitchen serves seasonally inspired, locally sourced food with in-between times satisfied with home baked cheese scones and fruit cake with Cashel Blue while the main menus changes daily. ... more   less
