Very quaint. Easy to feel at home in the living/social room in the lodge. Also easy to make friends with fellow travelers in this remote location. Bathrooms (one for each room) are clean. Guest rooms are rustic and reflect a bygone era, but beds are new. Owner/employees are always very friendly and accommodating. Food, when available (check ahead) is hearty... More

Needed to get away from the city turmoil. This was so quiet and peaceful in a very scenic area. The restaurant food was excellent and the Inn was extremely clean and comfortable. The beautiful geologic areas and the John Day river were something to behold. What clear air and blue skies! All the rooms had their own private bathrooms. There... More

I wanted to visit the Painted Hills, and on searching the internet it was difficult to find a place to stay, eat and have a glass of wine in the area. I selected The Lodge at Service Creek (circa 1920) because it fulfilled all 3 criteria. I had a private, clean bathroom and a porch overlooking the river. The room... More

We were a group that rented the entire lodge for a three-day weekend to visit the John Day Fossil Beds and other points of interest. We brought our own food and had full use of the kitchen. Everything worked. We ate our breakfasts and dinners on the back porch. We were there in September (not October) so the heat was... More

The John Day Fossil Beds area is beautiful, with very little accommodation other than camping. It's very nice to be able to take a shower and sleep in a comfortable bed at the end of the day. As I understand it, the Service Creek Lodge was a very nice place to stay four years ago. It is now a bit... More

Although the rustic quality of the lodge was appealing, it was not particullarly clean or well kept up. Although we booked a room with a private bath the bathroom was across the hallway at the bottom of the stairway leading up to the other rooms, hardly private. Even though we were one of two rooms staying in the lodge at... More

Service Creek Lodge is a small, historic lodge by the John Day River in central Oregon. The region is a beautiful, arid area that is very remote, peaceful and scenic. The lodge provides a clean, quiet room with local character. It also has a small store and restaurant, which we found very convenient. This is a very rural area, and... More
