My two sons and I stayed here for a night as part of a week-long excursion through Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. The setting is beautiful - the middle of rolling farmland in Amish country. The train cars/hotel rooms are brightly-painted and wonderfully out of place in the setting. Please keep in mind that these are TRAIN CARS TURNED INTO LODGINGS.... More

While in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania, area three years ago my wife and I discovered the Red Caboose Motel. Believing this would be a fun place for our grandchildren to spend a night or two we returned to Lancaster County in October 2011, for a visit to "Amish Country" and to experience for ourselves a night's stay in a caboose. We... More

We stayed here a year ago for a mini college reunion and thought it was ok. The inside of the caboose definitely needed to be remodeled, but at $115 then, we just enjoyed the novelty of it (although no one used the shower - scary). When looking for a place to stay for our reunion this year, the website stated... More

We stayed in the Reading painted caboose one night. The interior looked to have been recently renovated and was very nice. My 3 year old her own loft in the cupola with a tiny TV and lamp! She loved it. I don't know how the other cabooses are inside, but this one had a queen bed and a full sized... More

THE MOTEL: I love the exterior of these cabooses. The paint job looks great and so shiny! When taking a look closer though, part of the caboose was rusty and the stairs leading into the rooms were rickety and unstable. We stayed in the Chessie System car during "Thomas Week." They increased the prices during the time we stayed in... More

We used to stay here for a week at a time way back when Mr. Denlinger (original owner) owned and operated it and it was always a first rate experience. Everything, and I mean everything had a railroad based theme. The dining car played railroad songs. Now they play nothing. The entire gift shop had quality train items. Now it's... More

Its an okay place to stay 2-3 nights. We stayed 5 nights. The Amish use natural fertilizer and you can smell it. The flies love it. It took three days to get a fly strip from the front desk. The rooms are 8"x16" so it got old after a few days. It is a novel place to say for a... More

I was a little hesitant to stay here because I had read some bad reviews. I think it is important to remember that these are genuine cabooses. There is only so much room available to put beds, tables, chairs, etc. We stayed in caboose 21. It had a "cabin" theme with a queen bed and a tiny area upstairs that... More

This hotel located right next to the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum and Strausburg Railroad is a rail fan's dream. Stayed here with my wife and four children and we fit comfortably in this VERY CLEAN, VERY WELL MAINTAINED caboose. We stayed in the Jersey Central caboose. Lots to do for the kids here. They loved the arcade, farm animals and observation... More

The food in the restaurant train car is very plain and good. Homemade chicken corn soup was excellent. Sandwiches are very good, grilled cheese, grilled chicken sandwiches, BLTs, all were very reasonable. Children will love the authenic train sounds the car makes every once in a while. The prices were very reasonable for this area
