My wife and I have never been to Charleston and after having visited for a long weekend I would say: 1/Go. 2/Stay at the Rutledge House. We were in room 11 which is quite large and has both bathtub and shower. It's on the third floor, but the extra-friendly bellmen didn't have any trouble hauling our stuff up and down.... More

We made the Rutledge House the center piece of a 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration with 20 friends and relatives, and could not have been happier. Kathy and her staff coordinated our weekend stay including restaurant contacts, a welcome reception, airport transportation, and a tour of the city. We're convinced we couldn't have made a better choice. The excellent location, beautiful... More

when we saw how beautiful the Inn was, we quickly added another night to our stay. The furnishings are beautiful and the place is spotless. The staff could not do enough and Patrice took care of all our reservations and her recommendations were perfect. she told us what to see and were to eat. Her enthusiasm was so genuine. The location... More

We stopped for one night in Charleston with our dog. We had one of the dog-friendly rooms in the carriage house. The room was fine, but not even close to being worth the price. Not sure how much the non pet-friendly rooms cost, but I hope its not as much as we paid for ours. The room wasn't exactly uncomfortable,... More

Thank you for the nice comments on the staff and noting the convenient location. We take great pride in constantly maintaining this historic building to meet our guests expectations as well as AAA Four Diamond standards. I apologize that you felt the price was too high. The price varies as to the time of the year and you stayed in... More

Perfect examples of southern graciousness and charm are in this city. An ideal place to stay is the John Rutledge Inn. This is perfectly located close to everything, but not directly on the main traffic streets, so it is quieter. The Inn is gorgeous, the rooms are large, the bathrooms are heavenly, and the wonderful period touches like large four... More

My friend and I stayed in one of the coach houses, we were slightly disappointed we were not in the main house but suspected our twin bed request was the reason for this. We particularly enjoyed the daily afternoon tea which was an an added bonus, served either on the verandah or in the 'ball room'.....which was really a drawing... More

We checked into the John Rutledge grand suite for a 5 night stay on Christmas Eve, December 24th for our honeymoon. We were charged nearly $400 per night for this suite. The website pictures show a room that is brand new; however, these pictures are a lie. We checked into the George Washington Suite. The room looked old and not... More

As the owner I take all comments very seriously. I am sorry that you and your husband did not stay with us and therefore did not fully experience the inn. The fabric you mentioned is in fact an off white silk moray fabric which may be the reason you thought it appeared dirty. All of our furniture, fabrics and carpets... More

We really enjoyed staying at the Rutledge House Inn. It was lovely and very comfortable. My husband esp. enjoyed the sherry provided after a long day of sight-seeing. The staff was helpful with their dinner and touring recommendations. We will definately stay here again and strongly recomend it for others. More

We stayed in room 14 in one of the carriage houses. I would definitely request the room again. They brought breakfast to our room each day. I recommend selecting some extra sides with the hot dish. Didn't have room in tummy for tea, but the sweets looked good. They give you bottled water, a major plus. Easy walking distance to... More
