We accidentally found Clomantagh Castle last August. We were driving home from Kilkenny when we saw a bloke on the road holding a sword in a Crusader outfit directing people towards the castle. How lucky we were, its only open to public one day a yr. Anyway we loved it and decided to book and boy we are so glad... More

Clomantagh Castle is a charismatic and charming place to stay. The accommodation consists of an enormous kitchen in the bottom of the tower, and a large sitting room, with a smaller cosy room off the sitting room. There are numerous bedrooms and bathrooms. Our hostess gave us a very warm and friendly welcome. Her hospitality and playfulness with the children... More

Just back from spending a weekend at Clomantagh Castle - great fun. The castle is very well equiped and the good thing we had to make our own fun as there is no TV. I would highly recommend it. The rooms are all different but have alot of character. The house is warm and clean and it is a good... More

I just want to echo what most of the other reviewers have written. The castle has been restored to a condition that is so cozy and comfortable one could easily picture oneself living there. I grew up in a house not dissimilar to this hwoever my own family home was often cold and lacked the modern comforts. If I could say... More

We are just back from our holiday in Clomantagh Castle and all ten of us loved it (7 adults and 3 children aged 7months 2 years and 6 years)! No one had a bad word to say and I think its safe to say we were sad to leave. The house was clean warm and spacious. We had everything we... More

Clomantagh Castle is a unique property, plenty of space and really nicely furnished and comfortable. We visited in the summer 2011 and got a really good deal from The Landmark Trust. The place was spotless when we got there and we just felt right at home there. Bedrooms are really comfortable and all mod cons and lovely range in the... More

Myself and my husband stayed in Clomantagh Castle for a family celebration August Bank Holiday Weekend 2011, there were 8 adults, 2 children (toddler & baby) & 2 dogs. The castle is a brillant place to stay and not far to Kilkenny city and surrounding towns. There was plently of space for the toddler to run around, lots of bedrooms,... More

this is a great venue for getting together with friends. it was my second stay in ten years and i would recommend it. I spend a lot of my time in hotels and accommodation and this is definitely a gem. We ate three meals in the house for 10 with the range and a BBQ as back up. The only... More

Clomantagh Castle took me by surprise,I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. The bedrooms are all large and comfortable. The new range kept us warm as did the open fire in the sittingroom. The situation is nice too, well in off the road with horses in the field and church nearby. Nice area for walks too.... More

I stayed in Clonmantagh castle during the summer of 2010. It is a charming old country house with pine floors and old fashioned furniture. However, I was not satisfied with my stay there. There were a number of things which I, and other guests, were dissatisfied with. First, it was not very clean. The kitchen especially had to be cleaned... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Clomantagh Castle is part of a unique settlement dating back to the 1500s. It has remained in continuous occupation for almost 500 years. At one time there would have been a large banqueting hall attached to the tower house but this has long disappeared, and now replaced by a Victorian farmhouse. There is a wonderful deep-walled kitchen in the ground floor of the tower house, reminiscent of a Tuscan farmhouse and complete with a flag stone floor. An old farm dresser, a country kitchen range and a large table fill this high vaulted kitchen. The farmhouse parlour has a strong Irish vernacular theme with rich orange tones and lovingly restored sash windows.A medieval theme carries through the tower house to the turret stone stair case leading to the main bedroom in the tower. The cast iron four poster bed makes a perfect setting for any 'king' or 'queen' of the castle. ... more   less
