Woodwick House's website describes itself as being "Fine accomodation in Orkney's West Mainland". My husband booked one night her in August. He paid up front but was happy with his choice because the website looked so lovely. Sadly, our visit did not match the expectations we had from the website. We paid a lot of money for Room 1 which... More

Once upon a time locals told me, this was the place to be. A first class restaurant, musical evenings in the large first floor room, and pleasant gardens to walk in. Not any more. When we stayed in July, we found a hotel that had been stripped of its stars ( unknown to us) and no permanent staff. The only... More

This was clearly once a delightful large house in a picturesque setting. As others have said, the gardens are very overgrown; to a degree that goes well beyond the "certain state of wildness" referred to in A. Watson's (presumably owner/manager) earlier response. And it should be clarified that it is not a hotel. It is perhaps best described as a... More

I stayed here for two nights at Easter time, and we were the only guests. The welcome was very warm indeed combined with a comfortable room and the most amazing breakfasts I would recommend to any looking for homely accomodation in Orkney. The walk to the beach at sunset is a must.

Friends and I were traveling historic scotland for the entire summer until last week. We booked at woodwick house because the photographs and the site sounded amazing. Do not fall for it. The property is very lovely but you can tell that they are in need of a grounds keeper because a lot of things seemed like they were barely... More

It is seems incredulous that anybody can claim that any hotel could be the "worst hotel in Orkney" if they have not stayed in all the hotels on the island. They did not bring these problems to the attention of the management at the time of there stay. This looks and feels like a malicious review and can only damage... More

This place is heaven. Quiet, full of character and comfy. Trees, sea at the bottom of the rambling garden, chickens to trip over and good books to delve into. Now run by a delightful very welcoming couple with lots of excellent ideas to make it even better. If we go this way again this is where we will stay.

As an Orcadian wedding planner I would like to say that I have just organised a wedding ceremony at Woodwick House on 2nd August and found the new managers (who had just arrived in Orkney) to be very efficient. The bride and groom who had travelled from London with their family did not stay at Woodwick House as by the... More

We stumbled across Woodwick House by chance .... as we drove in to the place it was just like a hidden magical place everything bursting into life. I didn't know there were so many trees in one place Woodwick has it's own river and burn with small water falls right down to the sea. It has it's own beach with... More

The main thing to know is that the website is one thing and the actual place quite another. The website describes Woodwick of the past, when it was clean, welcoming and had a restaurant. The actual is rather grubby (and, yes, does smell of cat wee as other reviewers have noted), unprofessional (they lost our booking although confirmed by email... More

The first time in Orkney we stayed at the Woodwick house and felt amazed as we passed the stone gates. This time when the door opened and we were stuck with the new garrish decor and terrible smell we could feel something was wrong. The new managers were not up to the task. Our room was not cleaned, no new... More
