Stayed for one night with 3 month old baby. Spacious, modern room but in keeping with the age of the building. Friendly staff. Good food. Would stay again. Real fire in the pub downstairs. Lovely walk nearby.

It might be the only pub in the village, but the Penrhos Arms is a comfortable place with friendly staff and serves really excellent food. Particularly recommended is the lamb shank and the beef & ale pie from the restaurant menu, really superb. If you're in the area, please support this traditional 400-year old hostelry with your tourist cash, we... More

Just returned from a 1 night stay. Checking in is from 18.00hrs, we arrived a little early and received a friendly welcome and showed to room 1 (which I think is the best one) which has tons of character! Four poster bed and appeared to be newly decorated to a high standard. Bed very comfortable, spacious, high beamed ceiling, lovely... More

This pub with rooms is convenient for walkers on the Glyndwr Way. It is by no means exceptional but is quite adequate with decent beds, hot showers and an adequate restaurant. I do have to warn of the "heat" of the chilli con carne. Three of our party tried it, all sent it back due to the exceptional chilli heat.... More

Stayed Saturday night in Room 3 which was a huge room. Very pleasant with lovely complimentary bits, even Welsh bottled water. No bath, but a nice ensuite. The staff were all extremely helpful and pleasant. Lovely breakfast. The hotel has no view from room except road (quiet), but is surrounded by outstanding scenery. Our room was warm as the lady... We stayed at the Penrhos Arms as we wanted to be near Machynlleth. It was okay but not value for money. The room was on the smallish side with very poor lighting and extremely cold. The inclusive breakfast was very basic but again okay. We ate there one evening and thought it expensive for what it is. On another evening... More

The usual hotel we use when visiting Machynlleth was fully booked, so we took a chance on thie Penrhos Arms and are glad that we weren't put off by the previous negative reviews. We found this country pub to have plenty of character with welcoming staff and locals. We were given an upgrade to the four poster room and found... More

How on earth this hotel as got a 4 star rating is quite hard to beleive. First impressions were rather disappointing, the room was even worse. The price for this room was priced at £ 85.00 but to be truthful we have stopped in better b&bs very much cheper. The room had a musty smell and very dark with emulsion... More

I stayed at the Penrhos for 4 nights in April 2011 whilst working in the area. I found it more appealing than most hotels I've stayed in, largely due to the friendly and helpful staff and the bar regulars. I slept well in a clean and comfortable bed and heard virtually no road traffic between 11pm and 7am.
