We were planning to travel a bit farther that day...but once we entered this park, noted the surrounding scenery and trail access, we started having our doubts about moving on. When we saw the campground, located in a little oasis in all the surrounding beauty, we immediately decided that we had to stay. The sites were private, there were plenty... More

From Utah State Highway 12, I turned onto Kodachrome Way (Main Street in Cannonville, Utah) and drove 7 miles to the Kodachrome Basin State Park. It was a rest stop on my drive to the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and it was a pleasant surprise. The Park was the perfect spot for a quiet picnic and picture taking. Though not... We were doing a tour of several national parks in southern Utah recently. We came upon this state park when we found ourselves in Cannonville as we were getting hungry for lunch so we decided to stop and picnic here. What a wonderful little park. Lots of great scenery and a very easy level trail that is well-marked with signs... More

Well worth the drive-this was the only state park we vistited and we loved it-wish we had our van with 4 wheel drive for the dirt roads thou, the parts we could get to were great! And the price was good too, after spending $$ at the Federal parks this was a great find.

Kodachrome Basin provides yet another unique geological formation--67 rock "pipes" unlike any others on earth. Although the park isn't huge and the views are not as overpowering as Zion or Bryce, they are beautiful and they provide yet more insight into the violent upheavals undergone by our planet millions of years ago. If you enjoy learning about the uplifting of... More

We visited this Park accidently, because a hotel in this park was booked for us, due to busy hotels nearer to Bryce Canyon. Although it's small and not as overwhelming compared to Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon, etc., it was a pleasent surprise to us. It offers colorfull landscapes and nice trails. We walked the relatively easy trail towards the... More

After a disappointing cabin at Bryce Canyon Lodge, we LOVED the cabin at Kodachrome Basin State Park. Unpretentious with an amazing view from each cabin front porch. Mattresses were good, though we would have preferred queen size to doubles (the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5). A/C worked well (it was in the 90's); microwave and fridge. VERY... More

We stayed 2 nights at the campground and did some hiking at Willis Creek (very cool!) and around the park. It was really hot in the daytime (105 degrees) so we didn't get out on the longer trails but Shakespeare Arch and Chimney Rock were nice. The campground was clean and flat, but really dusty when the wind blew. The... More

We were traveling UT SR12 to get from Bryce to Torrey for Capital Reef so we decided to take a short detour: a side trip to the Kodachrome Basin SP. Now, I wouldn't say go out of your way to go there, but if you are on 12 anyway and come thruogh Cannonville, it is well worth a visit indeed... More

I took my family to Utah in June of 2011. We flew into Salt Lake City, went to Fish Lake, Capitol Reef, Bryce, Zion, Canyonlands and Arches. The highlight of the trip, for me, was Kodachrome. Although not a nat'l park, this state park is absolutely gorgeous, and a lot more intimate/smaller scale than the big parks. The best three... More
