Room 22: I chose it because it doesn't have a carpet. The room is in the auxiliary part of the hotel, and can be reached by going outside of the Palace Hotel, walking about 40 feet, then keypunching into another building, going up a long, old office building-type staircase, then unlocking a door to enter back into the auxiliary hotel. Or from the main hotel, one can meander through stairways and hallways, over to the auxiliary part of the hotel. As a woman travelling alone, I would have preferred to be in the main hotel. The Room 22 has amazing bones: 20 foot ceilings, tall windows, 14" tall baseboard trim. Otherwise kind of soulless, with a kitchenette, an average motel-kind of bathroom with fiberglass shower enclosure, a view of the parking lot and the slope behind the hotel. The bed is comfortable, the furniture is a little beat-up, has a thrown-together feel, and some of it looks like it might have come from ReStore. Good sheets, pillows and quilts. Did not like having an upholstered headboard as I prefer wipe-down surfaces. Despite the tall ceilings, the wall heater worked very well, and there's another heater in the bathroom. The room was clean, except the cleaner didn't see that the previous tenant left a glass in the sink. No bad odors. The TV has oodles of channels, including lots of PPV porn with XXX titles which are visible even if one doesn't do the PPV thing-- so up to you if you want your kids reading them. After seeing how much PPV porn is available, I wished even more that the TV remote was the wipeable kind. The location of the hotel is suburb-- you could not do better unless you can find a place downtown and on the water. And the parking lot behind the building is a real bonus, especially if they let you stay past the 11 am check-out, or before the 3pm check-in. The afternoon clerk was pleasant and friendly. The morning clerk was perfunctory and polite. The older I get, the more I appreciate an extra-effort welcome from hotel clerks, esp when travelling alone.…
