Relaxing and beautiful place. The front desk attendant helped me find a place by pulling out a map, circling the locations then giving me the map. People don't take the time like this anymore so that was a huge experience for me during this trip.

We loved staying here two nights in Feb 2024 while showing our documentary series on climate restoration at Fort Worden. Elegant and modern well-appointed room 22 (Capt Vancouver) was perfect - gorgeous comfortable bed, a decent working table / eating table, comfortable armchairs, sparely but comfortably equipped kitchenette and warm modern bathroom. Quirky and elegant hotel with flair and style. Everything within a few blocks' walk - restaurants, shops, waterfront walks, belltower, upland neighborhoods and tsunami escape routes. We will definitely be back! Thank you to warm and funny and professional staff.

Hello phoebeb 703: What a delightful review. We are thrilled and appreciate your positive comments. We will take a look at the kitchenette and see if we can add some more useful items to make it more than "comfortably equipped". "We are tickled that you enjoyed the warm, funny and professional staff". We are like one big family here and thoroughly enjoy our days working at the Palace Hotel. We hope to see you soon again! Cheers, Ruthie.

Room 22: I chose it because it doesn't have a carpet. The room is in the auxiliary part of the hotel, and can be reached by going outside of the Palace Hotel, walking about 40 feet, then keypunching into another building, going up a long, old office building-type staircase, then unlocking a door to enter back into the auxiliary hotel. Or from the main hotel, one can meander through stairways and hallways, over to the auxiliary part of the hotel. As a woman travelling alone, I would have preferred to be in the main hotel. The Room 22 has amazing bones: 20 foot ceilings, tall windows, 14" tall baseboard trim. Otherwise kind of soulless, with a kitchenette, an average motel-kind of bathroom with fiberglass shower enclosure, a view of the parking lot and the slope behind the hotel. The bed is comfortable, the furniture is a little beat-up, has a thrown-together feel, and some of it looks like it might have come from ReStore. Good sheets, pillows and quilts. Did not like having an upholstered headboard as I prefer wipe-down surfaces. Despite the tall ceilings, the wall heater worked very well, and there's another heater in the bathroom. The room was clean, except the cleaner didn't see that the previous tenant left a glass in the sink. No bad odors. The TV has oodles of channels, including lots of PPV porn with XXX titles which are visible even if one doesn't do the PPV thing-- so up to you if you want your kids reading them. After seeing how much PPV porn is available, I wished even more that the TV remote was the wipeable kind. The location of the hotel is suburb-- you could not do better unless you can find a place downtown and on the water. And the parking lot behind the building is a real bonus, especially if they let you stay past the 11 am check-out, or before the 3pm check-in. The afternoon clerk was pleasant and friendly. The morning clerk was perfunctory and polite. The older I get, the more I appreciate an extra-effort welcome from hotel clerks, esp when travelling alone.

We booked 2 nights on hotels.com. when we arrived at the hotel, and proceeded to our room we noticed a very musty smell. My wife had only had to spend a few minutes in the room to start feeling ill. She is allergic to certain molds and spores. We left the room immediately and explained the situation to the desk clerk, hoping for at least a partial refund. No sympathy, our card was charged for the 2 nights we could not stay there.

Hello Judy: Thank you for submitting your review and valuable comments. We are truly sorry that you had an allergy issue. We did have head of housekeeping go through the room to try to find the cause of the allergens; to no avail.. a "musty smell" was not detected. The room was clean. We have not had complaints about allergens, molds or spores in any of our guestrooms....pizza smell from Hillbottom Pie located in the same building, yes. We hope that you are feeling well. Again, thank you for taking a moment to write and let us know about your guest experience. All the best, Ruthie.

We were really worried as they advertised that this location would not have air conditioning as it was a really old building. However there was nothing to worry about. The room was huge with very tall ceilings and quite cool from the fans and dehumidifier. There were a lot of steps up to our room (30 with our bags) but was a really good place from which to walk to the wedding we attended down the street.

Very good location hotel. The staff was very friendly. The beds were comfortable. There is no elevator and the stairs are very steep and long which may prove difficult for some guests. Our room had a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker which proved very useful. The hotel has great character and is very comfortable.

Hello britawillisfeliciano: Thank you for your feedback! We are happy to learn that you enjoyed our central downtown location. If you decide to return to the Palace Hotel, please don't hesitate to ask for assistance with your luggage. Our front desk managers are able-bodied and very obliging; they will carry bags up to and from your guestroom. You are correct about there not being an elevator and yes, the stairs are steep. The Palace Hotel resides in an historic building from 1889 and the ceilings are extraordinarily high. It is an adventure staying with us. Cheers, Ruthie.

Stayed here for a Creative District conference. Great location. In the middle of Downtown Port Townsend. Beautiful building. Great architecture. Rooms in great condition. The only thing is this building like many others in this City has really steep stairs. Also, it doesn't have central air cause its a historic building. It has box fans. But tolerable as you are on a point between the Strait and Puget Sound. Would definitely stay here again.

Hello Mike: Many thanks for letting us know how we are faring at the Palace Hotel. We appreciate your feedback! You are right we do not have an elevator or A/C throughout the hotel. In fact, there are 15 steps to the MZ level, 33 steps to the 2nd floor, and 66 steps to the 3rd floor. Indeed, the steps are steep due to the very high ceilings. We are gradually installing A/C in the guestrooms. We enjoy a Maritime climate here; very hot days are rare. We hope that you were comfortable while staying with us. It's an adventure, here at the Palace Hotel. Hurry on back; we would love to see you again! Cheers, Ruthie.

My stay at the Palace Hotel was fantastic. Room 14 (Mrs Pearl) had 19th century charm, with high ceilings, antique furnishings, and a perfect view of the water. The front desk was very helpful, when I found I had not brought toothpaste they quickly made sure I had a tube to get me through. Across the street is a don't-miss coffee shop "Better Living Through Coffee".

I imagine every hotel in this charming town is charming. The Palace is just great. The rooms are delightfully decorated - either keeping to the Victorian theme of the town or modernized. Every amenity is available. Reception staff is so helpful - make sure you get a map of the town for easy exploring. We had a coffee maker and also herbal tea galore in the room as well as a little fridge for leftover dinner. I'd return here.

Very nice older building, very good condition. Room spacious, good bed, nice coffee service items. Personal drawback is the second floor. Bad knees, no elevator, over 30 steps up. Pleasant sitting area 1/2 way up the stairs, very nice sitting area on 2d floor. Except for the stairs, I would stay there again. First floor room, definitely

Hello john G: Many thanks for your review of the Palace Hotel here in Port Townsend, WA. We appreciate your feedback and we are so sorry that you found the stairs challenging. If you try us out again, please ask for assistance at the front desk. We have a very willing and fit front-desk staff who will gladly carry luggage to and from your guestroom. Quite right, we have a lot of stairs; in fact, there are 15 steps to the MZ level (room #15); 33 steps to the 2nd floor; 66 steps to the 3rd floor! Unfortunately there is no elevator; this fact does prevent some people from being able to stay with us. Thank you for trying us out, and we do hope to see you again. All the best, Ruthie.
