I recently stayed here on a short two night getaway by myself and wow, did I really enjoy myself, from the beautiful resort beach with complimentary kayaks and paddleboards to the wonderful cabin that had everything I needed to accommodate my stay, resort is on a beautiful lake and the lake water was so refreshing and clean. The resort owners were so caring and accommodating to my needs. Thank you so much Brekkes, I most defiantly will be back. Scott K.

We love and look forward to our Brekke's vacation every year. Situated on a beautiful, quiet bay of Lake George, there are many activities to do including fishing, kayaking, paddle boating, or simply playing in the sand. Wildlife is abundant. Cabins are neat and clean. Time seems to stand still in the Northwoods!

This resort has become a yearly destination for our family. Nice, clean, comfortable cabins. Pleasant atmosphere and owners. Pontoon rental is highlight of our 2-3 night stay. Would recommend this resort to families, friends, or anyone interested in getting away for a weekend or just a couple of days.

Thank you for your review! Thanks also for the comments on our cottages and atmosphere. Saying we have a pleasant atmosphere sounds simple enough, but it's exactly what we try to create for our guests. Also nice to hear you guys enjoy the pontoon boat, it's a great way to get out and see the lake. Thanks again for the review, and we hope to see you again this year!

Another great and relaxing stay at Brekke's Resort. Our 4th time staying there and as always Carol and Dan make sure your stay is perfect. As always, cabins immaculate inside and out and fully equipped with everything you need from night lights to pizza cutters. I'm sure we will be back again. In all our travels, haven't found any resort that can compare. Great job Carol and Dan. I'm sure we will be seeing you again.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I should say taking the time again, as this is not your first. We feel it's an accomplishment on our part that you've written more than once you've enjoyed your stay with us. Thanks for the kind comments. We do get a lot of comments on how well equipped the cottages are, so glad you noticed. And if you like the night lights, I think Carol is out buying a few more as I write this! Thanks again for the review, and we hope see you again in 2017.

Brekke's Fireside Resort brought back great memories of when I was a kid and would stay in the Northwoods with my family. My husband had never been to Wisconsin before and I wanted him to experience the same memories that I have. Brekke's Fireside Resort was a great way to share those memories! It is such a beautiful resort and Carol and Dan Brekke are such great people! Carol is such a warm and friendly spirit and Dan is a wealth of information regarding the lake and all the hot spots for fish! They are genuinely nice people! Our cabin was impeccably clean and had all the amenities of home. If you are wanting a place to get away to, I highly recommend this resort! We will definitely be back!!!!!

In general comments along the lines of "bringing back great memories" and "sharing the Northwoods with someone who'd never been here" are taken as great compliments around here. That is truly the essence of who we are. So thank you for taking the time to write your review and share them with us! And you guys did set the bar high on fishing in looking for a musky, congrats again on getting one. Thanks also for saying the cabin was impeccably clean and mentioning the amenities. For guests staying with us for a week, like you guys, we look to furnish everything you'd need. And on a side note to the reviewer, your offer to guide me is still on my mind if it still stands! We hope you will definitely be back as we sure hope to see you again! Thanks again for the review. For anyone who might be interested this review is from a couple who stayed in cottage 8 last September. A fun review fact is that it's our first review from the state of Indiana

A 5 Star Resort with a 5 Star Touch. Amazing facility from the cabin we stayed in to the beach with its ammenities (raft to swim out to and dive off of, paddle boats, kayaks and Stand Up Paddle Boards - loved them), tennis courts, horse shoes, shuffle board and their very own bar off of the beach. Carol, Danny and Nancy are an amazing team and we can't wait to go back. If your looking for a resort in Rhinelander that is just outside of town and is very family friendly, clean and a great atmosphere make sure to give them a call.

Thank you so much for the review! For whatever reason I write a bit about some reviewers to let everyone know who they are. This was a family of 3 who had cottage 5 last summer. It was their first stay with us, and we hope not the last as they were a joy to have. In particular thanks for your comments on our amenities as we do try to have a wide variety on site for guests to enjoy. Thanks also for saying we have a family friendly atmosphere and that our resort was clean...always nice to hear. Thanks again and we hope to see you this summer!

This is our third time staying at Brekke's Resort and as always Carol and Dan go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect and that you fully enjoy your stay. Had to mix some business with this trip so didn't get to use all the amenities the way we would of liked to. We are in the process of looking to buy property in Wisconsin so were on the road most of the week during the day. We were able to enjoy the bar in the evenings and use the grill to cook out all week. It was still a great place to relax in the evenings and enjoy the North Woods. And as always the cabins were immaculate. May be back again later this summer.

Thanks for taking time to write your review! With you being a "repeat reviewer" it does mean a lot to us you took the time to write you enjoyed your stay once again. And having a different cottage each time (cottages 5,7, and 12) it's great to see you had a good experience in each. For selfish reasons I'd say don't be in too much of a hurry to buy that property as when you do we'll be losing some great guests! But if the search continues we hope to see you again later this year.

Dan and Carol are great hosts. This is the perfect rustic setting for a northwoods retreat from the daily grind. Detail to cleanliness and convenience is their top priority. If your looking for luxury probably not your kind of resort. This is classic northwoods rustic setting and get ready for sure peace and a quiet.

Thank you so much for your review! And looking through our reviews I see that you are the first to give us a second review, so thanks for both. In particular thanks this time for your comments on the cleanliness of our resort and the variety of activities we offer. I would agree with your advice for those looking for luxury, as we are more on the rustic side of things. In your last review you mentioned that as well, and for those of you who've never been to a place like this looking at all of our reviews would give you a good idea of what our place is all about. They come from a nice cross section of guests - first time and return guests, couples, families, and members of large groups. Our cottages are nice but it is a rustic setting, it would be different than staying in a hotel. People that like our place tend to like that fact. Also you'll see several mentions of our bar or fire pit serving as places for guests to convene in the evenings. So I'd say that guests who enjoy their stay with us would, at least to a point, enjoy meeting our other guests (that's true for all resorts). You'll also see mentions of the activities we have to offer, so if you'd like those you may well like our place. Anyway hope that helps if you're not familiar with places like ours. To this reviewer thanks again for the review and we hope to see you again this August!

First of all, daily summer prices are NOT listed on their website and so it is misleading. It only shows weekly rates in summer and we didn't know actual daily rate of $104 until after we put down deposit and arrived there. For this price the cabin was not worth it. My longtime friend and I like to take a short annual trip up north to escape the city life and relax, but the four days we stayed here we didn't get much of an escape at this cabin. It was located right next to a busy county road so the nature sounds we heard were cars driving by. It was also very close to cabin next to us and right in front of another cabin giving us very little privacy. There was no individual fire pit just a little picnic area and again next to the busy highway. Twice we were startled with cop cars and sirens racing down the road, so much for escaping city life. The cabin itself stunk with a sign on the bathroom saying "If it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down" which we did not find comical. Our beds were very uncomfortable and the sheets I was given for the sofa bed were ripped and old. I found a pair of boxers under my bed which makes you wonder how well it is cleaned. It did come with a complete kitchen that was decent including many kitchen utensils, pans etc. The couple things we did like about Brekkes is that you are close to a very nice lake and it is free to use canoes, paddleboards, kayaks, row boats and paddle boats. Dan was nice and helpful with those items and was informative about area. The lake seemed like a good place for fishing. I caught a couple fish right off the dock. So if you are happy being around other people or like fishing this might be the place for you. If you want to be in nature and have privacy, I would not recommend this place.

You never like to hear that guests did not have a good experience with you. Both of these ladies clearly feel the same way as their reviews are nearly identical. So if nothing else it's important to see if there's anything in the review we can use to improve the experience of future guests. First off on the rates, they took the spring and fall season daily rate to apply for the summer. We do not have a daily rate listed for summer on our website as we try to stick to a weekly rental schedule at that time. But as far as our rates being misleading...the rate assumed to apply to their stay here in July did have a heading on it of "Spring & Fall" along with a sub-heading of "Before June 14, After August 16". One of them was also sent a rate sheet (before they arrived) with every rate we have on it, including a summer daily rate. We're not trying to mislead anyone, but do apologize for any confusion. It is not acceptable to us if anything was found in the sofa bed. It would be a case of the previous guests folding it up and the cleaning staff not unfolding it to check. That has been brought up as a reminder of why it is important to. And if there was a ripped sheet I wish they would have brought it to our attention as it would have been replaced. We certainly don't make a habit of handing out ripped sheets. Cleanliness is actually brought up here very often as a compliment, as can be seen in some of our other reviews. I'm sorry we fell short in this case. The sign in the bathroom isn't designed to be funny, it's designed to get noticed. I started out with a long winded sign but people would tell me they didn't read it. But it is a request, not a demand, as we participate in the Travel Green Wisconsin program. As such we try to limit water and energy use if possible. We also have a sign about turning off lights or the TV when not in use. We are happy to participate in Travel Green, but if I've offended anyone with the sign, maybe it's time for a new one. We do not have individual fire pits, but also don't advertise that we do. That mention was confusing to me, as if it was important enough for both of these ladies to mention, then why didn't they use the fire pit we do have even on nights when no one else used or was even around it. If there was a problem with the fire pit then, like the sheet, I wish they would have mentioned it. Again, you never like to hear an unfavorable guest response. But if it provides information we can use to improve our resort, I do thank you for it.

Watch out for daily rates stated on their website, it does not tell you the correct rate. There were two of us, both females, high school friends now in our 30's. We rented the cabin for four nights and the owner repeatedly informed us that we were the only ones not staying the week. It was clear they did not like it, but I wonder why they rented to us then? The cabin smelled terrible. There is a sign in the bathroom that says "if it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down". Turn off for me. We were told we would get two rolls of toilet paper and the rest was our responsibility. For $100 a night, I would think they could provide toilet paper. The cabin was located right next to a busy highway and right next to the other cabins (you can barely fit a car in the space between the cabins). The cabins did not have their own firepit nor was there a place to "hang out". The grass area to relax was located right next to the highway and then there was the driveway that was next to 5 other cabins. There was no privacy. There are a few cabins that are located a little farther away from the highway and other cabins, but there are only 3 of them. The beds were very uncomfortable and the sheets for the pull out bed were from 1950 and ripped. There was also a pair of men's underwear when we pulled the sofa bed out, which makes me wonder about the cleaning. The lake was very nice and they had lots of amenties. We did hang out by the lake in the evening one time hoping to watch a meteor shower, unfortunately the light from the bar sign is so bright we couldn't see the stars. Two out of four nights had cop cars racing down the road. I honestly felt that I could enjoy myself more in my own backyard in the city of Madison. I think that this place is nice for those with a large group of people who can all hang out at the lake and for people who enjoy fishing. It is not a place for a few people to go to enjoy the outdoors and relax. All in all, it was a pretty poor experience for me and I will not be going back.

As this was a case where one reservation lead to two nearly identical reviews, and we already responded to the other, I won't write the same response twice. I would like to take a moment to apologize to this reviewer for the places we fell short though. But I also need to reiterate the rates on our website are accurate. I'm sorry about any confusion in this case over the headings, but the rates as listed are accurate. We also have a total of 11 cottages, not 9 as this review suggests. And while I do thank both of these ladies, as we can improve from their reviews, I also think in painting a negative picture of our place they may have gotten a bit carried away. To prospective travelers I'd suggest reading all of our reviews, and then judge for yourself.
