This is one of the coolest places I have ever stayed... There is history around every corner and if the history of the West is interesting to you then this is the place to see and enjoy. Add to that the Saloon is a great place to have a drink or a pint. We stayed here on Thursday night for... More

What a beautiful place full of wonderful history. Built in 1880, the hotel still showcases many of its original features and furnishings. The saloon and restaurant are also original. Some of the famous or infamous that have stayed there are Butch Cassidy and the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang, Calamity Jane, Buffalo Bill, Tom Horn, Ernest Hemingway, the young Teddy Roosevelt... and many... The Occidental really lives its history and is very central to your stay. This is a building that has history all over its walls with photos, books, clothes, quilts and its furniture. Each of the rooms has its own history, so you get a sense about either who has stayed in a room - Butch Cassidy, the brothel, just among... More

This quaint bit of western living history is the place to stay if you want something different to the usual chain hotels. Each of the rooms is furnished differently with Victorian antiques and decor. The reception staff were really welcoming, taking the time to provide us with information and answers to our numerous questions about the place. The floorboards creak,... More

This hotel is un-blinking-believable. We found it on Trip Adviser while road tripping across the US. We popped in on the off chance as we didn't have a cell phone. We arrived in the off season and got an extremely satisfying price on the room. Me, my road tripping buddy and the dog Pikey all shacked up for the night... More

Dawn, the owner, is great. She takes great pride in the history of the area and is very available to answer questions or provide advice. My husband and I also loved Vicki, a bartender. We stayed during off season and she showed us around in the Virginian even though it wasn't open. There is so much history and originality in... More

We spent last night at the Occidental and what a treat! It began to really snow so we stopped early and we are so glad we did. Our outlaw room was two rooms and well decorated and comfortable! The whole hotel is so interesting and a piece of history that you will want to see. Dawn was a wealth of... More

A truly amazing place .. it seemed we had stepped into a time machine. Everything has been restored to original and you expect at any moment to see an old cowboy covered in trail dust walk into the room. From the phone call for reservations, to check-in, to bumping into her on the street, to literally bumping into her in... More

Last month for our 5th anniversary we decided to spend the night at the Occidental. What a wonderful old hotel this is. From authentic period furnishings it's hard to imagine comfortable accomodations, but the Occidental seems to have found a way to do that. We had a great pillowtop king size bed, a very large bath room, and an old... More

This is an amazing place. The hotel is truly a piece of the Old West. It is one of the most authentic historic hotels we've ever seen. Everyone was very hospitable. Dawn (the owner) was extremely friendly and informative. The Virginian was closed the night we were there so we ate in the bar and it was very good. Great... More
