They are renovating it. The renovated rooms are not bad but rather small. We were still able to stay 5 at a decent rate. Nice views on the bay or the harbour. Great patio for breakfast. Has a pool, but we didn't feel secure around the pool (anyone from the outside can be around and some local kids on bikes... More

We wanted to stay at a hotel near the volcano. we booked two nights (one prepaid) Naniloa before we went on vacation. Got to Hilo and was very disappointed. It's an airport town that is run down and so many of the stores were closed. Got to the hotel and it had no curb appeal! all the stores inside the... More

We stayed here for 1 night during our trip to explore the east side of the BIg Island and really enjoyed our stay. Our room was spacious and the bathrooms were very clean and updated. We stayed in the renovated tower and had views of the bay and Mauna Kea.The staff was very friendly and willing to help. It should... More

I've done my research on where to stay in Hilo, and read all the reviews on Tripadvisor so I knew not to expect much staying at this hotel (all my other choices were full). The guy at reception was friendly and the room was nicer than what I expect - bare bones but still acceptable conditions. We really just needed... More

They seem to be in the midst of a renovation. The overall building is moldy (exterior) and unkempt. However the room we got was newly renovated and just wonderful. The corridors clean and the bed comfortable. Bathroom was spacious and clean. We had a fantastic view of the ocean and shoreline from our balcony. (not all rooms have balconies). The... More

The Naniloa Hotel has seen its better days, but decades of neglect have taken a toll that will require considerable resources and some decorating taste to overcome. While renovations have started, this prime location on Hilo Bay has a long way to go to reach the expectations of tourists visiting Hilo. The Naniloa's exterior is partially painted adding to a... Evidently the ownership is milking every last dollar out of the property before it is condemned. I felt like I was in one of those creepy video games that takes place in an old abandoned hotel and zombie's were going to attack at any moment. There were no more that 10 cars in the lot, yet we were placed on... More

When we booked our one night stay in a basic 2 dbl bed room in the non-renovated tower (no lanai) at the kamaiina rate of $69 (tax not included), we were not expecting much. We've been to Hilo before and know it's like stepping back in time. Buildings are older, it rains a lot there so lots of wet/mossy/mildew areas,... More

The hotel is older now, but our room had been completely refurbished, with new fixtures and a sparkling bathroom - and the view from the veranda is magnificent. More

I was at this hotel thirty plus years ago and we've both aged. Perhaps she suffered tsunami damage recently plus upkeeping a building so near Hawaii's brutal salt water is a difficult daily battle at best. I've come to realize that they just don't have the money to do a total overhaul of the entire resort. Our room was clean,... More
