We stayed at Holmes Sweet Home in Nov/09. This was our second stay at this bed and breakfast, but our first time meeting John and Charlotte. We felt so welcome here. The Holmes are wonderful, warm people. We spent our days in Hilo busy and in the evening enjoyed the company of John and Charlotte and their family. When Charlotte... more

From the "waiting on the porch with our first names on the owner's tongue as we arrived, to the wonderful breakfasts this is a first rate stay. And they knew just where to send vacationers with little or no planned itinerary. Charlotte and John are a class act. more

John and Charlotte Holmes graciously host this clean, peaceful bed and breakfast in Hilo. If you're looking primarily for a perfect room with all the mod cons, you may not find it here. But if you're looking for genuine warm hearted hospitality, look no further. At the end of our 3 months travel throughout the USA, Charlotte and John win Honors for being the most welcoming. more

Everything the previous reviewers say is true - I'd just like to add a few things. First, John and Charlotte are as wonderful as they say, friendly and conversational and not at all intrusive. Their experience as innkeepers is evident - they anticipate what you need, and they are fun to talk to. Second, the sitting room has a wonderful... more

My family spent a week in Hilo on a family reunion of sorts, and we were treated by staying at the Holmes' bed and breakfast for seven nights. The home is located in Ainako, in upper Hilo town, but very conveniently located to all activities, restaurants and roads. Since we were visiting with family, we used the B&B as a... more

This B and B is centrally located--close to airport and downtown Hilo and it’s in a relatively quiet neighborhood (except for the Coqui Frogs which can be bothersome at night). The hosts (Charlotte and John Holmes) are gracious, cordial, and helpful. They provide internet connetion, suggestions about what to do and see, and general information about Hilo. Breakfast consists of... more

The warmth that we felt from the moment we arrived to the day we left was just like family. Charlotee and John were there for whatever needs we addressed. They were the perfect hosts. Sitting out on the Lanai was such a peaceful setting overlooking the Hilo Bay. The area was just perfect and so serene. I would come back... more

Holmes Sweet Home is a well-maintained house in quiet residential area with partial view of Hilo bay from the lanai. Hosts John and Charlotte Holmes make their guests feel so welcome they seem like family. Gracious and warm-hearted, they go out of their way to provide whatever one might need to make their stay comfortable and enjoyable. They like to... more

The Holmes are very welcoming and informative for the Big Island. The room with bath was quite good and the common area large. Two wonderful senior innkeepers. more
