Pat and Mary have been most gracious hosts. Our stay, while seeing most of the Big Island, often included long hours and it was always a welcome "home" on our return. Located across the street from the ocean, the lenai offers a view of whales and sea turtles as well as the meeting place for guests to share adventures over... More

My friend and I spent a week here and couldn't have been more satisfied with the the cottage we stayed in which had all the comforts of home, including a nice size TV screen where we could watch the Australian Open after a great day of hiking. The beds were very comfortable and the cottage was exceptionally clean The breakfasts... More

Our family of four spent 3 nights in the cottage at Ala Kai B & B. We loved the location, views and our hostesses, Pat and Mary. We cooked several nights and the cottage kitchen had everything we needed and more. The beds are comfy, the house is very clean, the decore is fun tropical and casual so we were really... More

Ala Kai is a rare sanctuary from the tourist rush. You reach it by a sinusoidal private road, which by itself is fun to drive, Immaculate house with accomodations with all amenities of home; elegant , spotlesly clean, where the surf and chorus of the frogs and birds are the only sounds in the night. The swim in an attractive... More

Since there no real great hotels on the Hilo side, our suggestion is to stay at a B & B and what a better place to stay than Ala Kai. Mary and Pat (owners) are gracious hosts. Very relaxing and breakfast is scrumptious. With the sounds of waves and gorgeous views to be had from the lanai. Beautiful walks along... More

We stayed two nights in the Bamboo Room and loved it. We arrived in the late afternoon and were invited up to the lanai to cool off and enjoy the view. The ocean is right across the way, and their view is to die for. Mary and Pat make you feel welcome, and serve up a wonderful breakfast. This is... More

We stayed a week and wished we could have stayed longer. The cottage with the large king bed, full kitchen, living room and lanai was our home for the week. The car port and washer/dryer were convenient bonuses. Just outside of Hilo, this B&B served as our base camp for island exploring. Within a 30 to 45 minute drive you... More

Mary and Pat made us feel at home the moment we arrived. We stayed in the Bamboo room which was large with a beatiful walk-in rock floor shower. With a microwave and small refrigerator we were able to prepare our own meals and enjoy our evenings their quite and beautiful gardens. The breakfasts were a true luxury with ample fresh... More

Ala Kai B&B is run by two wonderful women who have definitely mastered the art of B&B hostessing. The cottage we stayed in was more like a home and was stocked with just about everything you needed including a washer and dryer that was free to use. They put out the most wonderful breakfasts every morning on the lanai overlooking... More

The Ala Kai bed and breakfast is in a beautiful location in the Puna area very close to the ocean. Breakfasts are delicious and generous. The porch has an amazing view, whether in the morning of the ocean and sunrise, or at night to watch the stars... Mary, one of the owners, was very helpful and a great resource. I... More
