This hostel could do with some updating but it was good on the whole and fitted our needs; fairly central location, simple but clean dorm rooms/bathrooms, and free internet. The kitchen wasn't great and could definitely do with being modernised. Can't complain about the free pancakes every morning though!

AAE Amsterdam is in a really central location to access all areas of San Francisco. The rooms were clean and staff were friendly, however it looks a but tired and in need of updating. I stayed here in September 2012. I paid a bit extra ($125 per night incl tax) for double room to myself with my own bathroom in the room. The room was old fashioned and not pretty but it was clean. I stayed in a four-bed dorm - the bedroom and attached bathroom were clean. The room wasn't huge, but I didn't have trouble moving around. Big lockers were also provided (without locks) so you can keep your stuff safe. Beds were pretty comfortable, and the room was pretty quiet. We stayed for just three nights but I've got to tell you that was not what we expected. A lot of noise from ceiling, the stairs, the hallway, everywhere! Also breakfast was a "make yourself" waffles, terrible! The rooms had a poor overall condition. The location was the only good thing, I would try another place...
