We stayed five night in this wonderful, centrally located hotel in the heart of Union Square. Easy to walk to shopping, dining, and meetings scheduled throughout the city, and plenty of taxis available if we needed one.
We did find the noise from the street filtered up all the time, but we have found that to be the case at...

I stayed here in a suite with my husband and 2 toddlers. In general I don't like carpets, and there was something about this place that made us all feel damp. I know it is supposedly renovated, but we just felt slightly uncomfortable here. I understand it is a historic building and renovation, but somehow I sensed/heard gaps beneath the...

Not bad if you can get a good rate -- right in the center of the tourist district... but the hotel -- while beautifully historic, is in need of renovation. I was in the main building -- not the tower, so the tower may be better -- but rooms in the main building are old old old.. furniture is worn...

Watch the historic in-room TV program about the hotel. Great historic perspective of one of California's historic hotels. I've stayed at this hotel more than any hotel in the world (300+ Nights over my lifetime).
Get a room in the "Historic" wing overlooking Union Square. The 21-series, 10-series, and 34-series rooms are the best (1221, 1021, 1121, etc.). Also the...

I stayed at the Westin St. Francis for a business trip last week. The location is very good for shopping and dining. The hotel is historic and has a lot of character.
However, I was surprised at how tiny the room was, and it was not as nice as other Westins I have stayed in. Little things, such as the...

Stayed here while attending a conference. I was upgraded to a room in the new tower on the 27th floor. View of Union Square and city was terrific. Room was very nice as in other upgraded Westin properties. I hear from other conference attendees that the rooms in the historic tower were noisy. Not an issue in the new tower....

I think the Westin St. Francis is a decent hotel. The Westin bed is of course fantastic - extremely comfortable. The staff was very nice, attentive, and helpful. And the rooms are a fair price for San Francisco. The negatives - dated, very simple rooms. There were 4 dirty empty wine glasses right outside my door when I checked in,...

As you can see, I review Starwood properties often. I travel a lot and I am a Platonism member. This hotel, in short, is dated and needs some work.
The elevators I the main building were down. Two of six worked. The banks were left open causing a draft. My phone was broken for the three day stay.
The gym...

I was at the St Francis for three nights last week and had a room on the 12th floor of the original building. The room was comfortable and clean, but despite being tucked down a hall off the main corridor it was extremely loud. My assumption is that this lovely old hotel just wasn't built with the same sound proofing...
