This is a very old hotel (1915) and even tho they have updated it you still get old - very small rooms, the heating/air conditioning unit in the wall was so drying and noisy we turned it off. But the worst thing was the free off street parking. We found a spot, but thinking it was evening and likely no... more

I have stayed at the Balboa Park Inn at least 5 times driving down to San Diego from LA and this place is exceptional! Yes, there is street parking and I have never had trouble finding a parking spot-ever. The rooms are cute and some have mini kitchens in them which I love because I always go to the store... more

The room is fine, if a little tacky- but there is absolutely no parking anywhere!!! The liar who took my reservation assured me there was plenty of street parking and that, in a pinch I could park across the street at the school. Neither statement was true. We drove around in circles for an hour every time we needed to... more

We wanted a place that was an easy stroll to the zoo. Balboa Park Inn fit the bill being 5-minutes away. I was extremely pleased with our accommodations, a suite named Suite Cycles. AMMENITIES: For our money (the same amount we'd pay a hotel), we got a bedroom, living room and kitchen. We bought read-to-eat meals at a near-by Whole... more

The beds are extremely comfortable. The rooms are clean and obviously planned and decorated with thoughtful care and imaginative taste. I agree with other reviewers' use of the words "quirky" and "quaint." The location next to Balboa Park's museums, zoo, and restaurants is very convenient. It's a great place to come and relax - why bother to stay anywhere else... more

The LOCATION, in the Hillcrest neighborhood, is absolutely A++++ Everything you might need, from Kinkos and Trader Joes to a couple of thrift stores, a post office, and lots and lots are cafes and restaurants are just an easy walk or drive away. The off-street parking is free and right next to the Inn. There is super easy freeway access... more

This hotel has a lot of character, but it’s not the sort you’d find in, say, an urban boutique hotel. There’s nothing “put on” about this place; it's not trendy and it doesn't have attitude. I found the furniture and decor (including ample bouquets of artificial flowers) pretty tacky/kitschy, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and in... more

We arrived on Friaday, Oct. 23rd at 2:45 pm. Alan at the front desk provided us with all the info we needed. (directions, maps, how far to the nearest store). What a helpful employee. We had reserved the Country Talk mini suite. WOW!!! 4 rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, king size bed in a roomy bedroom, living room with a... more

It was more than I expected. We walked to Balboa Park every day and walked to University Ave for dinner each evening. Because of the close proximity to the zoo we were able to take our time wondering the zoo over 2 days and never felt rushed. It was simple to take public transportation to the beach. The staff were... more

We just got back from a brief 2 night vacation in San Diego. We chose the Balboa Park Inn because it was right next to the park and the price was excellent. We stayed in the City Lights Room. The room was very clean and well equipped. The weather was delightful so we just opened the windows and did not... more
