We had the most wonderful trip to New York over New Year's Eve, and the1871 House and staff helped make it so enjoyable and relaxing. From arrival to departure we had nothing to complain about. The room was perfect for the 5 of us - from the comfy (very comfy!!) beds to the space available to spread out and relax.... more

I want to keep the 1871 house my secret, but I won't. The house and staff exceeded our expectations in every way, from the location, to the attention to our needs, to the cleanliness, everything was perfect and staying here made our NYC trip more memorable. We rented the Madison suite and it was very comfortable for my wife and... more

We left after 3 days and that was way to long.If you believe all those positive reviews you are a bigger fool than we were.Just wait till you see the conditions of rental and refund policy if you need to. It covers everthing and when you stay there you will see why.No matter what management's response is after this post... more

My daughter and I stayed at 1871 House for 4 nights on a shopping trip to NYC. The house is located in the upper east side which is just full of great shops, restaurants and cafes. The house itself is just wonderful. We stayed in the front library which is a large, spotlessly clean, super comfortable room which overlooks the... more

The 1871 House is an incredible place - cozy rooms with an old world charm, each one different from the other and personnally decorated by the owners that also reside in the building. I travel for business nearly every week in the year, and am always on the lookout for hidden gems where I can unwind after a long day... more

This is a wonderful place -- gracefully managed, well thought out, and unlike any place I've ever seen in NYC other than a private apartment. I lived in Manhattan for 30-plus years, and when I moved away and gave up my apartment I didn't imagine I'd ever feel quite at home in the city again. At 1871 House they let... more

I stayed here on a whim and dearly hope that I'm able to again, it was absolutely magical. I felt as though I was coming home at the end of a tiring day. My room was so welcoming and comfortable, and completely transported me from the fast pace of the city. The old floor boards, antique furniture and decor were... more

We have stayed at the 1871 house on several occasions, each time in a different room and have loved it everytime. It seems expensive to someone from the UK but as prices go in Central Manhattan it is value for money. The location - fantastic so much to see as soon as you walk out the door and only a... more

Management response from

We thank our guests for their feedback. It helps us a great deal in our efforts to improve our service. We are sorry to learn that our guests experienced what appears to be excessive humidity in the Mission Studio. We have a new high quality dehumidifier placed in the room and our only thought is that it was potentially turned...

1871 is the perfect place to stay when visiting New York for a short or long stay. My room was gorgeously decorated with high celings and deliciously soft pillows and bed linen !! Even a darling little kitchette !! We were in heaven. The location is fabulous and only a few blocks from Central Park with easy access to the... more
